Diego Velazquez Brings the Thunder to YE

Can’t wait until Saturday for your Thundermans fix? No problem! YE brings Nickelodeon’s favorite super powered family to you! We got a chance to sit down with Billy Thunderman, aka Diego Velazquez, to chat about the show and how he began acting in Hollywood

YE: The set of The Thundermans looks like a super exciting place to work. Tell us about it!

Diego: “Having the chance to play Billy is great. I enjoy coming to work everyday; it’s such a loving environment because we all get along so well and really enjoy each others company….like a REAL family. We play, talk, and hang out with each other as much as possible. When it comes to working, I love doing stunts, like super speeding into walls, falling a lot, and sometimes flying in the air. I love the entire cast and crew and cherish every moment with them. Every day is a new great experience.  When I’m not working, I try to visit my hometown of Portland, Oregon. I have a lot of great friends there, and I spend all my time just being a kid.

YE: Sounds fun! What made you want to start acting in the first place? In a dream world, what kind of characters would you want to play in the future?

Diego: “I realized I wanted to be an actor, when one day I went to work with my mom who is a stylist on commercials and some movies. When I saw the actors I always thought, I want to do what they are doing. One day, I was about six, and I finally said it. ‘Mom, I want to be an actor.’ My mom was actually not surprised. Soon there after I went to an open casting for a movie called Extraordinary Measures and ended up booking it. After that mom said ‘It’s probably time to get him an agent.’

“If I could be on any show/movie it would have to be some sort of Stand By Me spinoff or remake.  It’s my favorite movie. I would want to play Chris Chambers (which is River Phoenix’s character) because I have always wanted to play the bad boy or bad kid. I don’t think he wanted to be the bad kid, but he had lived such a hard life, but no matter how hard the times get, he was loyal to his friends. I have never played a role like that, so I think it would be a rewarding challenge.”

We at YE look forward to seeing what roles Diego snags next, as well as what happens with Billy this season on The Thundermans.
