16th Anniversary of High School Musical!

It’s been 16 years since High School Musical first aired on Disney Channel. What are our most loved cast members up to today?

  • Zac Efron (Troy Bolton)
    • Zac Efron became the ultimate heartthrob when he played Troy Bolton on High School Musical, and he continues to do so sixteen years later. Efron has had a very successful career since the ending of HSM. He has starred in hit films like The Greatest Showman, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, and Baywatch. Efron also has a hit series on Netlfix titled Down to Earth with Zac Efron where he travels the world and explores more sustainable ways to live. Where would Troy Bolton be today? Is he pursuing music or lighting up the basketball court? Let’s hope his career involves both music and basketball.

  • Vanessa Hudgens (Gabriella Montez)
    • Vanessa Hudgens won the hearts of viewers across America as the sweet and smart Gabriella Montez, but she is wowing the world with her talents in her recent ventures. She has starred in a three movies series with Netflix titled, The Princess Switch, and most recently Hudgens acted alongside Andrew Garfield in the Netflix film, tick, tick…BOOM! where she showcased her incredible pipes. Hudgens has also graced the Broadway stage as Gigi in the musical, Gigi. It is clear Hudgens isn’t giving up the spotlight anytime soon. Today, Gabrielle Montez would be using her brains for good and teaching science at a university. Hopefully, side by side with her man, Troy Bolton.

  • Ashley Tisdale (Sharpay Evans)
    • Quite the opposite of Sharpay Evans, Ashley Tisdale is our favorite balanced queen. Her business, Frenshe, incorporates wellness, beauty, skincare, and interior design all on one site. Other than owning her own business, Tisdale has focused on her music career. In 2019, she released her third studio album titled, Symptoms (definitely take a listen, it is a bop). If we were to see Sharpay Evans today, she would be pursuing her dream on the Broadway stage and documenting it all on her Tik Tok and Instagram. C’mon, Sharpay was an influencer before it was even cool.

  • Corbin Bleu (Chad Danforth)
    • Corbin Bleu has stayed busy since his HSM days, specifically on Broadway. Bleu played Usnavi in the musical, In the Heights, appeared in the revival, Godspell, played Ted Hanover in Holiday Inn, the New Irving Berlin Musical, and most recently played Bill Calhoun/Lucentio in Kiss Me, Kate. Bleu is also set to star in an upcoming musical titled Catch Me If You Can based on the film of the same name. Set to release this year, Bleu will voice a character in the new Disney/Pixar television series, Cars. Chad Danforth’s smooth moves haven’t strayed away since his HSM days. Chad would be back at East High coaching the wildcats on to the championship while emphasizing the importance of being able to be an athlete and participate in the arts.

  • Lucas Grabeel (Ryan Evans)
    • When Lucas Grabeel exited the role as the singing and dancing twin to Sharpay Evans, he continued to act in other Disney movies such as Halloweentown High and Return to Halloweentown. He even appeared in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series as himself. Ryan Evans in 2022 would be the most sought-after choreographer in the biz. His undying support for his sister, Sharpay, continues into his adult life, but thankfully Ryan has found his own passions.

  • Monique Coleman (Taylor McKessie)
    • Ever since her iconic role as Taylor McKessie where she played the ultimate girl boss, Monique Coleman’s most recent project was the TV movie, A Christmas Dance Reunion on Lifetime in which her costar was none other than Corbin Bleu. Coleman also plays the role of Ebony in the television show, Family Reunion. While balancing her acting career, Coleman has managed to have the time to work for dosomething.org to produce the “Do Something U” video tutorial. The purpose of the video is to target younger audiences who need guidance in finding a direction for life. Coleman focused primarily on how to use social media for good. The only plausible option of where Taylor Mckessie would be today is the president of the United States. With her brains, bravery, and loyalty, she is the perfect candidate to lead the country.

What do you think is next for these Disney icons?
