In an event so horrific and coincidental that proves truth is so much stranger than fiction, the beautiful and underrated movie star Paul Walker lost his life last week in a fiery auto crash while participating in a charity event he helped put together.
The Fast & Furious star had become associated with the franchise featuring reckless drivers and lean, mean driving machines, which made the tragedy all the more difficult to take in. But YA Mag would like to look back on Paul’s short-lived career, remembering his appearances in some rather notable YA fare, like She’s All That.
From his turn in the still spooky Joy Ride, opposite Steve Zahn and Leelee Sobieski, to Varsity Blues with James van der Beek, Paul proved his presence and charisma early on. A favorite moment was also as the impossibly smiley and naïve Skip Martin in Pleasantville. He also knew how to be somewhat foreboding, as seen in the ominous college conspiracy thriller The Skulls. And his career had the potential to soar to new heights, as hinted at in the Clint Eastwood-directed war drama Flags of Our Fathers. While it is still unclear whether the 7thF&F film will ever see the light of day, Paul had one other film in the works, entitled Brick Mansions.
We send our condolences to the family and friends of Paul Walker, along with fans everywhere.
