Top 5 Moments from past MTV Movies Awards

The MTV Movie Awards is one of our favorite awards shows. It’s prestigious without being stuffy, it’s fun without being cheesy and big stars turn out. One of our other favorite things about the ceremony are the banner moments, of which there have been many since the show’s creation in 1992. Here we recapped our five favorite ones.

1999 – Will Smith performs “Wild Wild West”

It’s easy to forget that superstar Will Smith had a rap career, but at one time it was pretty substantial. In 1999, Smith performed his hit single “Wild Wild West” at the awards complete with an entrance on a horse and an amazing maroon suit. While the movie was considered a bit of a failure, this performance is a major success in our books.

2007 – Rihanna f/ Jay-Z –perform “Umbrella”

The Movie Awards are awesome because they feature some of the most amazing musical acts…it is MTV, after all. In 2007, Rihanna and Jay-Z came together to perform their smash hit “Umbrella” in a performance that blew everyone away and still is amazing to watch.

2000 – When Tom Cruise Met Tom Crooze

Tom Cruise is always a favorite at the awards as he’s game for so many things, but our favorite moment was in 2000 when Tom Cruise met Tom Crooze. Ben Stiller played Tom Crooze, Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible body double in a bit that became a classic almost instantly.

2010 – Katy Perry & Snoop Dogg perform “California Gurls”

The MTV Movie Awards have taken place in both California and New York, but one of our favorite left coast pride moments was Katy Perry and Snoop performing the smash hit “California Gurls” in 2010. The song was iconic and the performance came to be, also.

2005 – The Best Kiss Ever – Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams

One of the most original categories at the awards, and one of our favorites, is the Best Kiss category. It’s had some outrageous acceptance speeches, as you can imagine, but one of our favorites was one of the sweetest. Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling won for their chemistry in “The Notebook,” but they also happened to be a real-life couple at the time. When they accepted the award, their reenactment caused the crowd to go wild. Although they’re no longer together, their kiss will live on forever.
