Alex Saxon
Alex Saxon in The FostersLaid back Alex Saxon makes acting natural look completely natural. As Wyatt, one of Callie’s “less complicated” love interests on The Fosters, the actor brings a tender but earnest energy, someone who’s “got other peoples interests at heart,” as he himself observes. Parallel to this, on the new Finding Carter, Alex plays Max, a holdover of sorts from Carter’s life before it was turned upside down (the show details a teenage girl’s experience after discovering her mother is actually her abductor, and that she has a whole other family). “Max is a little more lackadaisical about his direction in life,” Alex had to say. “He’s laid back to a point that’s actually enviable at times!” he adds.

But that’s not to say he isn’t compassionate as well. “Max is unique because of his relationship with everybody, [which is] on their own terms,” Alex says. “He has an outsider’s perspective, and he really listens to people…which is a good way to approach my real life relationships!” This is just another aspect of the actor’s expert ability to observe detailed characteristics, adding color and texture to his performance. It’s no surprise that both of these characters were meant to be temporary/guest-starrers, but thanks to Alex’s presence and strength as an actor, they became more lasting fixtures of each show. “I went along for the ride with the writers,” Alex remembers, mentioning the excitement of putting together the character arcs this way. “No one knew where it was going. It’s kinda been a trip to just show up!”

Alex Saxon in Finding CarterAnother peek into just how intelligent this actor is comes up when asked what other profession he may have liked to take part in other than performing. “It would be in medicine,” Alex responds immediately. “I maintain a fascination with human beings: how they work, why they do the things they do. It goes down to a biological level.” Drawing an interesting bridge between the worlds of medicine and performance, he says “It’s always about learning about the world around me. It informs the way I understand the universe. It’s all about how people work.”

Of course, inquiring minds truly want to know where Wyatt stands with Callie (and if he has even a distant shot against Brandon). “Wyatt loves Callie more than anything else,” Alex states. If she were to end up with him, “that would seem to be a less complicated option!” But not everyone seems to agree: “a dog ran through frame during an intimate scene with Callie,” he recalls. “There’s always this balance of staying with the work and having funny things going on. You have no idea what’s going to happen!”
