THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PART I
Summed up as: After some clever teaser trailers, the fist full-blown theatrical trailer for the third film in the series is here! Just a little over two more months!!
Coolest thing about the trailer: How dark it seems, literally and figuratively. We’re also thrilled to see legendary Julianne Moore as Alma Coin!
Strangest thing in the trailer: Are those white Storm Troopers who got lost on their way to the set of Star Wars VII??
Worth seeing opening weekend? Are you kidding???
THE HOMESMAN
Summed up as: A wayward rugged man (Tommy Lee Jones) and a pioneer woman (Hilary Swank) agree to guide three insane women on a journey through the countryside.
Funniest thing in the trailer: Tommy Lee Jones’s one-liners.
Don’t Miss: Hailee Steinfeld back at it in a western (her Academy Award-nominated role was in the Coen Brother’s True Grit).
Worth seeing opening weekend? If you like westerns, than yes! Oh, and if you like Meryl Streep, then double-yes!
THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN
Summed up as: Your pretty basic, run-of-the-mill slasher horror flick right in time for Halloween.
Scariest thing in the trailer: That potato sack mask.
Least scary thing in the trailer: The killer’s voice. We can barely understand him. They should have just hired Christian Bale to do his Batman voice.
Worth seeing opening weekend? Make a fright night out of it!
WALT BEFORE MICKEY
Summed up as: After the success of Saving Mr. Banks, a historical recounting of Walt Disney’s efforts to bring YA book Mary Poppins to the big screen, comes this biographical look at the early lives of Roy and Walt when they were coming into their own.
Weirdest thing about the film: Curiously, Walt Disney Pictures has absolutely nothing to do with this.
Don’t miss: David Henrie of How I Met Your Mother and Wizards of Waverly Place fame, as someone named Rudy Ising.
Worth seeing opening weekend? Is it just us, or does this look super lackluster?
AGENTS OF SHIELD – SEASON 2
Summed up as: Awesome Clark Gregg heads up this show, now in its second season, about the men in black who work behind the superhero scenes in the world of Marvel.
Coolest thing in the trailer: Not much…the perfectly timed explosions maybe?
Don’t miss: Ming-Na Wen kicking some butt.
DVR or Watch it? DVR?
ONCE UPON A TIME – SEASON 4
Summed up as: A teaser that is positively Frozen!
Coolest thing in the trailer: The faithful, Disney-fied recreation of Elsa’s magic curlicue freezing power shooting out of her hand.
So Obvious: This is such a no-brainer. Take an immensely popular animated film (itself a retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen), and throw it on an immensely popular TV show…
DVR or Watch it? Watch!
FIELD OF LOST SHOES
Summed up as: A different kind of wartime costume drama, about a group of boys at a Virginia military academy during the onset of the Civil War.
Coolest thing in the trailer: The strong ensemble cast, including Nolan Gould and Luke Benward.
Worth seeing opening weekend? Yes this looks good and different!
23 BLAST
Summed up as: A high school football star goes blind and starts the long journey back to self-sufficiency.
Coolest thing in the trailer: Everyone’s awesome accents!
Best line in the trailer: “Is that movin’?? Oh my gosh, that’s movin…”
Worth seeing opening weekend? This looks fun.
AS DREAMERS DO
Summed up as: Bizarrely and befuddlingly, this is the second film on this list to explore the early life and career of Walt Disney.
Best line in the trailer: “No one is going to come to a Disney park.”
Cutest part of the trailer: When Walt asks a little redheaded girl if she has an imagination. Back then, kids probably had much larger ones…
Worth seeing opening weekend? This looks slightly more whimsical and upbeat than the previous film.
PAPER PLANES
Summed up as: 11-year-old Dylan from the Australian countryside begins competing for the World Paper Plane Championship in Japan.
Best line in the trailer: “I’m being supportive. That’s what mates do.”
Cutest part of the trailer: The origami moment, followed by the gymnastics moment.
Worth seeing opening weekend? Why not? We love a cute underdog story.
