Young Entertainment Mag: How did you all meet? How did the Young Culture form?
Gabe: Alex and I met in middle school towards the end of our 6th grade year. Then we ended up meeting our drummer Nick at a show we played with our old band. Then we met Troy at a music camp I went to with Alex.
Alex: Yeah, me and Gabe started the project together and knew we wanted to only have people in it who have the same vision. Nick came in soon after and we reconnected with Troy later on and now YC is what it is today!
YEM: How would you describe your sound? How did you find your sound?
Gabe: We aim to make our sound pretty accessible to everyone, so we try to incorporate aspects everyone would enjoy! We are definitely characterized as pop punk but we don’t want to limit ourselves to just one genre. We all grew up listening to bands like Fall Out Boy and The Starting Line so we take a lot of musical inspiration from them.
Alex: Exactly, we don’t want to put ourselves in a box. We know we have potential to make more than just pop punk and we want to make sure that we embrace all the musical genres we love.
YEM: You just signed to Equal Vision Records! How does that feel?
Gabe: It feels like a dream come true! I grew up listening to alot of bands on EVR so to now be part of that roster feels incredible.
Alex: It’s amazing, working with the people over at EVR has been great and they treat us like family.
YEM: Your new video Drift just premiered. What was it like filming the video?
Gabe: That was the first time we ever shot a music video with a full storyline and director. We worked with Bradley Atom who made the process super enjoyable and smooth. There was a lot of stress leading up to the video trying to make sure our vision came though but Bradley exceeded our expectations.
Alex: Working with Bradley was so much fun, he’s so kind and really talented. Really brought the idea that i had pictured in my head to life.
YEM: Tell us about the song Drift?
Gabe: Drift was the first song we knew would come out on Equal Vision so we knew we wanted to make it
impactful and representational of us. This is was the first song where it was an entirely collaborative effort
writing between the four of us. It’s definitely my favorite song yet.
Alex: We had a few different songs that we were gonna pick from and this one felt really right. I wrote the lyrics and melodies and brought it to them and they were like, this is the one! Together we all really made the song come to life.
YEM: If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be?
Gabe: I think working with a top tier hip hop producer, like Pharrell, would be incredible for writing purposes. He has a huge band and I really like all the projects he’s worked on.
Alex: For sure, a hip hop producer would be fun to work with, put a really cool spin on the music. I’d also really like to work with Matty and George from the 1975 someday.
YEM: Do you have a favorite song to perform live?
Gabe: Right now, it’s Smooth off our EP. However, well start playing Drift live on our next couple tours and I have a feeling it’s going to become my new favorite.
Alex: I really like playing Bloom and Pure Gold but Drift is definitely going to be the new favorite!
YEM:What’s ahead for you? Will you be touring soon?
Gabe: We’re working on our first official release for EVR right now. Coming up at the end of September into October we have a tour with Kayak Jones that were all super stoked for.
Alex: Yes! New music, new tours, new friends, so much love!
