Lindsey Lomis is a singer, songwriter from Nashville who is opening up for Joshua Bassett on his headline tour. She also has a new EP that just dropped which is titled Daydreaming. YEM was able to speak with her about what it was like working with Joshua Bassett, if she would like to headline a tour one day, and her new EP that just dropped called Daydreaming. It was also great to be able to see her at the concert and get some amazing photos.

YEM: What was your introduction to the music world and how did you decide you wanted to perform on stage?

Lindsey Lomis: Growing up in Nashville, my parents took me to see live shows all the time. I fell in love with going to concerts and the comfort seeing my favorite artists in person gave me. I attended a lot of music camps and got opportunities to play live all the time. I knew it was what I wanted to do the second I stepped on a stage.

YEM: Who were some of your biggest influencers growing up?

LL: Tori Kelly, Allen Stone, Adele, H.E.R., and Amy Winehouse just to name a few. I was really drawn to soulful voices!

YEM: What was the first concert you’ve ever been to or what was your favorite concert to go to?

LL: Well my parents started taking me to concerts before I can remember, but the first one I recall going to without them was a Colbie Caillat show. I went with my best friend and my babysitter and I remember feeling so cool hahaha! But I have to say my favorite concert I’ve ever attended is Twenty One Pilots. I was obsessed with them in middle school and I’ve seen them 8 times!! Their show is truly like no other.

YEM: How long does it take you to write a song and how do you decide what to write about?

LL: It depends. Sometimes I knock a song out in under an hour and other times it takes me days to fully finish it. I just write about my life or things that I’m inspired by. Like most songwriters, my notes page is full of tiny snippets of ideas, so I usually start there.

YEM: How did you get involved with Jojo and how did that lead to Joshua Bassett?

LL: JoJo and I are signed to the same label. I wrote a song called “Slow Motion” and they showed it to JoJo and next thing I know she cut a vocal for it! I freaked out to say the least. Then that led to me touring with her in the US and the UK and I genuinely learned so much from her. As for Joshua, he actually saw a Tik Tok I posted of a song of mine called “call me when u get home” and told his team he wanted me to open for him!! I of course freaked out again when I got that news.

YEM: What’s it like working with Joshua?

LL: I think anyone who meets Joshua will say the same thing – he is the sweetest and most humble person. I feel so lucky to be touring with him!

YEM: What are you most looking forward to on this tour with Joshua? What are you most excited about?

LL: I’m most excited to meet his fans. We just played our first show in Toronto and the crowd was so kind and welcoming to me. They made me feel so comfortable and I had the most fun. I’m especially excited now that my new EP “Daydreaming” is out so people can actually listen to the songs I’m playing!!

YEM: Would you like to headline a tour one day? What does that look like for you?

LL: YES!! That’s my dream. I would love to headline a tour with a band. I’m so used to playing solo (which I absolutely love) but I really do want to put on a high energy show and jam with other musicians. I can’t wait for the day that happens!

I just write about my life or things that I’m inspired by.

YEM: You have a new EP that just dropped called Daydreaming, what is Daydreaming about?

LL: To me, “Daydreaming” is is about growing up. I wrote most of these songs right after graduating high school; I learned a lot about myself in that time. My friends were moving away for college and it felt like we were quickly becoming adults. But there’s a magic in that period of time even if it can be scary. You learn to cherish your friends and experience life to the fullest.

YEM: How would you describe your sound? And if someone were to be like “Lindsey sounds like such and such artist” who would that artist be?

LL: Well, I try not to box myself in. I’d say I’m a mix of soulful vocals, jazz chords, indie production, with pop hooks. The goal is that I don’t sound like any other artist, but I definitely think you can hear the Tori Kelly influence in me.

YEM: Are there any artists that you’ve collaborated with whether it be in writing or singing, what’s that process like and are there any other artists you’d like to work with in the future, big or small?

LL: I’ve worked with a handful of artists I love and admire, like Bren Joy, Victor Franco, Bruno Major, and more. The list of artists I want to collaborate with is endless. Some that come to mind are Still Woozy, Remi Wolf, Madison Cunningham, Chiiild, Dijon, and oh so many more.

YEM: Do you know what happens after this tour? Or what would you like to see happen once the tour is finished?

LL: After this tour I’m going to dive into writing for my next project (which I already have some songs for that I couldn’t possibly be more excited to share). I’d also love to play some headline shows!
