Fans of Nick Hornby should be thrilled with the new NBC series, About a Boy. The series is a new adaptation of the novel, which was previously made into a movie in 2002. It follows Will, who once wrote a hit Christmas song. Like any writer of a crazy successful one hit wonder, he’s financially stable and living the unattached dream. He quickly meets single mother Dakota. She’s cultured and a sophisticated cellist. In order to impress her, he makes up a story about his son and tries to join her at a single parents support group.
In trying to impress Dakota, he meets Fiona, his new uptight neighbor. Fiona has an adorable son, Marcus. Will decides to have Marcus pretend to be his son to impress the ladies. What he isn’t expecting is to care so much about the boy so quickly. His cover is blown almost before the lie gets off the ground, but that doesn’t stop Will and Marcus from pursuing a relationship of their own. and her 11-year-old son, Marcus (1600 Penn’s Benjamin Stockham), who is equal parts nerdy, lovable and the perfect way for Will to keep pretending he’s got a son of his own. The show follows his relationship with Marcus and ultimately Fiona in one of the great sitcom will they won’t they exchanges. The show moves to its regular night starting the 25th at 9/8 central.
