Hailing from Canada, Alex rose to fame on America’s Got Talent season 19, where he made it all the way to the semifinals. He released his debut EP “Hopeless Romantic” last year, a seven-track body of work and honesty. He also collaborated with Grace Gachot on the song “Built To Be Bad”, which he said is one of his favorite songs. His latest single “Used To You” is blowing up so if you haven’t listened yet, what are you waiting for!
Alex is also beginning his acting journey, and we are manifesting him as Flynn Rider in a live-action “Tangled” remake!
Alex: “I am so happy with the song we’re writing so the highlight of my day is the song.”
Alex chatted with us while in the studio working on new music. He teased some exciting things coming up, including a song tentatively called “There She Goes” that gives off the best summer vibes!
Alex: “There is a song I am writing right now that is very summery.”
Growing up, Alex said he was very inspired by 80s tunes, and is also a massive Owl City fan. He’s unapologetically a huge One Direction fan and loves to follow the next big artists like Role Model and Benson Boone.
Alex loves to try and experiment with new sounds and melodies when it comes to songwriting and his work ethic is a major driver in his passion to get to the top. Through his new music, he wants fans to see a more personal side of him.
Alex: “I want to be different and special and it has always been my dream to be one of the biggest artists one day.”
When he auditioned for America’s Got Talent, Alex said his main motivation was to put his music out there and said it was a phenomenal experience. From the very first audition, where he found common ground with Simon Cowell over wearing the same shirt, to learning how to manage his nerves, he said it inspired him and his love of performing.
Alex: [America’s Got Talent] really boosted my career.”
After finishing up his first major tour, where he opened for Jamie Miller, it is clear how much fans and listeners mean to Alex. He talked about his favorite experience in Salt Lake City where the fans made him feel like he was co-headlining as they sang his lyrics back to him. Alex says without fans, he wouldn’t be here so he always tries to give back.
Alex: “[My first tour] was pretty much everything I hoped it would be.”
We ended our incredible chat as Alex spoke to aspiring musicians, saying the most important thing he has learned is to trust your gut. Alex said he was once told his most popular song on Spotify, “Play Pretend”, was never going to work. But you never know how things might play out, so he says if you are passionate about something, put it out for the world to see.
Thank you Alex! We want to know who you want to hear and learn from and have many exciting guests and stories coming up in future episodes! We’ll be releasing episodes each week so don’t forget to subscribe and stay tuned!
Consider this:
- If you are nervous about something, it means you care. Be confident in yourself and your abilities. And also don’t forget to have fun!
- Trust your gut: If you love something, go for it or put it out into the world because odds are someone else will love it too.
