In the season three finale of Supergirl, we find out that both Winn and Mon-El, played by Jeremy Jordan and Chris Wood, will no longer be series regulars on the show. Winn joined the Legion of Superheroes and traveled back to the future, accompanied by fellow Legion member Mon-El. Jordan reassured the audience via twitter that, “this is not goodbye…Winn WILL return in season 4.” On the other hand, Wood will not be reprising his role next season.
While the exit of both beloved characters is extremely emotional, here are some of their best moments:
Winn Finds Out that Kara is Supergirl (Season 1, Episode 1)
In the beginning of season one, Winn is shocked when his friend and co-worker, Kara Danvers, reveals herself to be the one that saved all those people from the plane crash. Once he gets over his initial fangirling, he becomes Supergirl’s informant on all things technology and even designs her super suit.
Mon-El Heals a Little Boy on Argo (Season 3, Episode 20)
When Kara and Mon-El discover a city of Krypton that survived, the latter donates a device from the future that can give vaccinations and create antibodies to a little boy who’s sick. After visiting again, we see that the little boy is completely healthy and had passed the device on to another citizen.
Winn Meets Superman (Season 2, Episode 1)
Winn meets Supergirl’s cousin, Superman, when he visits the DEO after helping Kara stop a falling spacecraft, called the Venture, from crashing into Earth. Their initial meeting is incredibly awkward, mostly on Winn’s part, due to his incessant questioning of the hero’s power potential.
Mon-El and Winn go to a Bar (Season 2, Episode 4)
Both men end up at a bar after Winn is convinced to let Mon-El, who he’s supposed to be babysitting, leave the DEO. They exchange playful banter, but it’s not long before they get kicked out, when Mon-El exploits his enhanced strength to win an arm-wrestling match.
Winn Rescues Supergirl and Mon-El (Season 2, Episode 9)
After Supergirl and Mon-El get trapped on Maaldoria, a planet with a Red Sun that blocks their powers, Winn unwillingly joins a strike team to travel to the planet and save them. Winn then manages to defeat an alien in order to keep a portal open for the DEO agents to save them. He then dubs himself a “badass.”
Winn Teams up with James when He Becomes Guardian (Season 2, Episode 5)
James, feeling left out, wants to become a superhero and enlists the help of Winn to become one. Winn is extremely hesitant at first, but eventually turns around and creates Guardian’s super sleek look, while also being his eyes and ears, on the lookout for crime.
Mon-El Sacrifices his Happiness in Order to Save Earth (Season 2, Episode 22)
When his own people are invading Earth on an order from his mother, the only way to get rid of them is to disperse lead into the atmosphere by using one of Lena’s machines. Daxamites are hyper-allergic to lead, making the reaction fatal. Their enemies retreat, but Mon-El is forced to leave as well in the Kryptonian pod.
Winn Teleports onto the Daximite Ship in Order to Free Mon-El (Season 2, Episode 17)
Mon-El is trapped on his parent’s spaceship in one of the prison cells, when Winn teleports onto the ship using the technology they acquired from their time on Maaldoria. He then frees Mon-El from the cell and hacks into the security feeds so he can find J’onn and Kara, and Mon-El can help them. This is another rare ‘Winn being on the front lines’ moment.
Winn Joins the Legion of Superheroes (Season 3, Episode 23)
In the final episode of season three, Winn decides to leave the DEO and join the Legion of Superheroes, traveling to the future because he is the only one capable of defeating Brainiac, who destroyed every A.I., but himself. Brainiac is one of Brainy’s distant relatives, so Brainy thinks he should stay in the past, while Winn goes to the future. This means Winn will get a Legion ring, giving him the power to fly, telepathic immunity, and making him able to travel in space without a suit.
Mon-El Pushes J’onn out of the Way and Gets Hit with Reign’s Laser Vision (Season 3, Episode 23)
During the epic smackdown between Supergirl and Co, and Reign, Sam stabs the villain and Kara tosses her into a pit, where her laser vision becomes out of control. While she basically kills every character besides Supergirl, Mon-El pushes J’onn out of the way and takes to attack full on. The moment is brief, and is basically erased when Kara goes back in time and changes the outcome, but the sentiment is still there. Mon-El saved J’onn by sacrificing himself.
Supergirl returns to The CW on Sunday, October 14th at 8/7c.
