“You can’t recreate how perfect [of a cast] it was.” Peder Lindell talks playing Morgie and special cast of Descendants: The Rise of Red

Even though Descendants: The Rise of Red premiered on Disney+ over a month ago, we still can’t stop thinking about it. With 6.7 million views in its first three days of streaming, the film became Disney’s most-viewed film premiere ever on the streaming service. With a talented cast, catchy songs and timeless stories, the film’s and franchise’s legacy will live on. We chatted with Peder Lindell, who stars as Morgie in the film to learn more about his character, his experience on set, and being part of such an iconic cast.

If you haven’t seen the film yet, Descendants: The Rise of Red follows Red, the rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts, played by Rita Ora, and Chloe, the perfectionist daughter of Cinderella, played by Brandy Norwood. When the Queen of Hearts incites a coup against Auradon, the polar opposite Red and Chloe must join forces to stop her. Kylie Cantrall stars as Red and Malia Baker stars as Chloe and the cast also includes Ruby Rose Turner, China Anne McClain, Morgan Dudley, Dara Reneé, and more.

Morgie is a new character to the Descendants franchise as the son of the villain Morgana le Fay. He is a follower of Ursula’s sister Uliana and can manipulate dark magic like his mother.

“It was really interesting discovering who Morgie was to me and how he fit in this Disney Descendants world.”

Since Morgie is a new character, Peder said he had fun creating Morgie and making him his own. He also brought parts of himself into the character including the physicality and his love of stunts, as well as his humor.

“I’m really happy that I had the opportunity to create something entirely my own with [Morgie].”

We learned that Peder was perfect for the physicality of this role because in addition to being an actor, Peder loves to play sports, dance, and even has his pilot’s license.

He began his acting journey on the stage in many theater productions, including as Billy Ray in The Jungle Theater’s production of “On Golden Pond.” Since 2020, he has multiple credits to his name and also has exciting projects coming up.

We have talked with Kylie, Dara, Ruby Rose and many other stars a part of the Descendants: The Rise of Red cast, and it is evident how close they were off set. Peder confirmed this, and said the cast had such a strong bond and he learned a lot from people like Dara and Kylie, who had already been a part of the Disney family from prior roles.

“You really can’t recreate how perfect [of a cast] it was.”

Peder also talked about performing at the D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event with the cast members of Descendants in front of 17,000 fans. He said he was shocked at first but it was also one of the most special moments of his career.

“I would call it a lifelong goal of mine to perform in a stadium.”

Consider this:

  • When you first get a role, ask yourself of your character: ‘What am I fighting for, what are my intentions.” You want to get inside the mind of your character and why they make the decisions they do.
  • Ask questions of your cast members. You can learn a lot from their different experiences and knowledge of the entertainment industry.
