About guesting on the show, Cassie is of course “very excited!” Working with Chelsea Kane was particularly fun, due to a happy coincidence: “I’ve known Chelsea for years and years – we were friends before so it was really cool to work with her,” Cassie shares. “We have a bunch of mutual friends. She’s an amazing girl!”
But are their characters friends on the show? That’s more complicated. About Heather, Cassie’s role on Baby Daddy, she had this to say: “We are frenemies. We have a very passive aggressive relationship [on the show]. I come in and start a lot of trouble for Chelsea’s character. We have a lot of fun with it!”
For those of us who remember Cassie on Make It or Break It as Lauren Tanner, you’ll recall that Cassie is used to bringing a lot of trouble to the table. “I’m always such a troublemaker. What is that?” she jokes. In Baby Daddy, she plays a slightly different kind of mean girl. Playing Riley’s old ‘friend’ from back in the day, “Heather always had to one up Riley in summer camp. Heather was that annoying girl that had to be better than Riley in everything,” Cassie describes. And of course, we can all remember at least one person growing up who fits this description. Now, “years and years later, she is still one-upping her in everything, creating a lot of drama back in Riley’s life.”
And what about how all this drama will play out with the boys on the show? “Heather winds up having a thing/moment with Danny and possibly one other character,” Cassie reveals. “But I don’t want to give anything away! So I’ll just keep my mouth shut!“
Guess we’ll have to wait and see. For her part, Cassie is thrilled to be returning to an ABC Family show, where Make It or Break It became such a hit. “It always feels like home going back to an ABC Family show,” she says. “I walked on set the first day and it’s the same producers, the same caterer, and the same dialog coach – it’s so comfortable, it automatically feels like back home!” she reminisces.
“Working on a show in general is an amazing experience,” she goes on to say. “You’re working on your tools every single day. You come to find out [your character] has all these layers.” About fleshing out Lauren Tanner over the years, Cassie was happy to find that she wasn’t just a typical ‘mean girl’. “I got to work on a lot of different things and so many different layers – it definitely was a very big stepping stone in my career, I’m so lucky to have been a part of it!”
And what about Make It or Break It? Is there really no chance of revisiting Lauren and company? “I miss MIOBI a lot,” Cassie shares. “It’s amazing, the fan base we have. Daily, I hear from fans asking ‘are they ever gonna do anything with the show?’ It’s such a wonderful fan base.” And even though there are no signs of the show returning, about her former castmates, Cassie says “we keep in touch as much as possible – they’re great girls!”
As for the Young Adult Magazine Signature Question, Cassie selected two ‘old reliables’ as her answer to which role in all of history would she have loved to have played: “This is so typical – Rose from Titanic, because I love Leonardo DiCaprio! And I’m such a cheeseball, but also The Notebook – I love romance, I love the passion!” Don’t worry…we are right there with you Cassie!
