The highly anticipated Netflix favorite Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 3 was released on January 24. This followed a bold claim by protagonist Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka) to end Season 2. After nearly ten months of waiting, fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Luckily, Season 3 picked off right where the show left off.
Warning: Spoilers for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 3 E1
Episode 1 of the new season revolved around a daring and determined Sabrina. She was motivated to pluck her helpless boyfriend Nick (Gavin Leatherwood) out of the treacherous depths of hell. An even worse notion for the teen girl was the fact that the Dark Lord was the culprit responsible for taking Nick. Sabrina was ready to dive into whatever trouble she encountered in hell. Though her friends Harvey (Ross Lynch), Roz (Jaz Sinclair), and Theo (Lachlan Watson) initially expressed their concern for her.
Nevertheless, the quartet decided to go to hell together and rescue Nick. But how, you ask? Well, art collector Dorian Gray (Jedidiah Goodacre) had paintings of hell with special portals that granted access. There was a catch, however (ugh). Sabrina needed to bring back the Flower of Evil for Dorian. In addition, the flower served as the only way for the friends to simply RETURN TO EARTH. Yes, this flower proved to be a big deal.
The slightly nervous teens braced for whatever challenges loomed in hell. The chief mission was to confront the Queen of Hell in the city of Pandemonium, where Nick was being held captive. Little did the friends know that reaching the city would require taking the Blood Red Road through the Shores of Sorrow, Field of Witness, and Forest of Torment, which contained demons, dangers, a Tin Man and Principal Hawthorne?!
It was in the Forest of Torment that Sabrina finally pinpointed and grabbed the coveted Flower of Evil. When the group finally reached Pandemonium and met the Queen of Hell, they realized it’s the body of Ms. Wardwell (Michelle Gomez). No matter what she needed to conquer, Sabrina remained firm in getting her beau back. And the Queen was willing to fulfill that wish on one condition: be re-crowned the Queen of Hell again.
Before the process could even begin, the group of five was instead confronted by Prince Caliban (Sam Corlett), the Prince of Hell (yes, there’s a prince of hell too). The dashing Caliban aimed for the throne, but not before Sabrina claimed she was the Queen of Hell (it’s believable since her dad is the Dark Lord). With this temporary balance of power in hell, Sabrina dismissed Caliban (for now), but not without a warning from him about challenging her for the throne in the future.
With the Flower of Evil, Sabrina, Nick, and the group returned safely to Greendale. Plus Sabrina is feeling a sense of relief that Nick was with her now. As the four friends recapped their trip to hell over milkshakes at a diner, the door suddenly opened from a fierce, ominous wind. Despite Sabrina brushing off her claim of being Queen of Hell, the eerie wind signified that darker forces are looming behind her back.
