Go on a crazy epic island adventure with Forgotten Island, which is out in theaters September 25th. We chatted exclusively with actors Dave Franco, Liza Soberano, and H.E.R., and directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado to learn more about the film.

Forgotten Island follows two best friends who become stranded on the mystical world of Nakali, where their only escape might cost them their shared lifetime of memories. H.E.R voices Jo, Liza voices Raissa, and Dave voices Raww, with the film also bringing in stars including Manny Jacinto, Jenny Slate, and Sophia Laforteza of Katseye.

Liza: “I wouldn’t trade how meaningful this movie is for the world.”

We had fun chatting through the hardest words to pronounce as voice actors, including the hotly debated pronunciation of ‘drawer’!

The cast also reveals what legendary animated characters they would love as their best friends, and there are some great options to choose from, including Donkey from Shrek, Russel from UP, and Casper the Ghost!

Dave: “Donkey from Shrek is such a good friend.”

The film touches on themes of friendship and memory, and Liza said having the film set in and heavily inspired by the culture of the Philippines was so special.

Directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado are best known for directing Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and teased some Puss in Boots easter eggs in Forgotten Island. They also revealed that their biggest take away from this movie was embracing happy accidents and encouraging the cast to not be afraid of improving on set. That’s sometimes where the funniest moments come in!

Joel: “The beauty of human beings coming together to make something is spontaneity.”
