Degrassi Recap

Degrassi imageSchool bells opened the season, while church bells closed the season. In the finale, one of Degrassi’s best characters, Adam Torres, died in a horrific car accident. That’s tramautic enough, but he had overcome so much earlier in the season: bullying, rejection, and a school shooting only to have his life taken so quickly by a car. This truly defines tragedy. Oddly, it grounded the show in a way…Degrassi can get a little outlandish at times, yet something as common as a car accident can change the course of the characters’ lives forever.

Becky of the unshakable faith, seems to be wavering in the face of Torres’ death. Is this a permanent change? Only time will tell.

Still in the hospital, Clare tries to memorialize Adam via social media. It’s a coping mechanism very much of the times. In the face of all this death, Clare receives some news about her own life: her cancer is finally in remission. Clare grapples with survivor’s guilt in the wake of this new development. We end with a bonfire in memory of Adam. The group lights a candle for Adam, places it in a balloon-like basket, and lets it float towards the sky. RIP Adam Torres.
