Looking for a Valentine’s Day movie this weekend? Look no further than Kissing is the Easy Part, which is now available to stream on Tubi! Before the film was released, we interviewed Asher Angel and Paris Berelc, who play Sean and Flora, in the movie. We chatted all about their Disney roots, their process for filming kissing scenes, and what they learned from each other as actors.

Kissing is the Easy Part follows straight-A student Sean who tutors rebellious Flora for a college recommendation letter. Yet their growing attraction for each other complicates more than just their academic goals. The movie is based on the Wattpad novel by Christine Duann.

Both Asher and Paris grew up in the industry on Disney, which made it that much easier to find connection when they first started filming. Asher starred as Jonah Beck in Andi Mack and also as Billy Batson in the films Shazam! and Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Paris got her start as Skylar Storm in the Disney XD series Might Med and Lab Rats: Elite Force. She has also starred in the Netflix sitcom Alexa & Katie and appeared in the rom-com Tall Girl.

Paris: “Seeing that commitment from Asher was very inspiring.”

Because Asher and Paris are already well into their careers, they have both learned a lot about tapping into different characters and emotions. This played out in Kissing is the Easy Part, especially in their kissing scenes as Asher said it was important to him to fully commit to those scenes and have open and honest conversations with Paris to make sure they were both comfortable. Paris said it was important to lean in as much as possible to the emotions during these types of scenes.

Asher: “It’s all comfort level and I constantly wanted to reassure Paris.”

Even though they hadn’t worked together before on Disney, both Asher and Paris said they learned a lot from each other on set. Paris said Asher is very committed to his craft and always gives 110% in all he does. Asher said Paris is very articulate and great at expressing her emotions, and both commended the other for being so hard working during this project!

Asher: “Paris is very good at articulating how she feels.”

Because this is a Valentine’s Day movie, we had to ask Asher and Paris what their favorite all time kiss scenes in movies were. The Spectacular Now with Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley and The Holiday were the top two picks, as they featured kiss scenes that were not too over the top, but sweet and endearing.

Paris: “The kiss in The Spectacular Now was so sweet and just very raw.”
