The Proud family is back in an all-new modern series on Disney+. A follow-up to the original series, familiar characters join with new ones for exciting new adventures in Wizardville, California. Kyla Pratt returns as Penny Proud along with Tommy Davidson as her dad Oscar and Paula Jai Parker as her mom Trudy. JoMarie Payton and Cedric the Entertainer also reprise their roles as Suga Momma and Uncle Bobby. Also returning are Penny’s best friends, like Dijonay Jones, voiced by Karen Malina White with Soleil Moon Frye as Zoey Howzer, Alisa Reyes as LaCienega Boulevardez, Carlos Mencia as Felix Boulevardez, Maria Canals-Barrera as Sunset Boulevardez and Alvaro Gutierrez as Papi.
Guest stars include various big names in the industry like Lizzo, Jaden Smith, Lena Waithe, Al Roker, Lamorne Morris, and even Brenda Song. Disney recently revealed what their characters will look like in the show and the designs really pop. Lizzo, Roker and Morris are starring as themselves. Smith voices a college version of Myron Lewinski, a secondary character from the original series. Waithe voices the college version of Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins, a new character along with her brother KG who happen to have two dads, a first for the series. Lastly, Song plays the role of news reporter Vanessa Vue who manages to catch Oscar’s highly embarrassing schemes. Knowing Oscar, Vue is highly unlikely to be out of a job any time soon.
Since The Proud Family was all about inclusivity and humor, people are sure to expect the same from the new series. The first two episodes will premiere on Disney+ on February 23. If the trailer is anything to go by, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder will be worth the wait
