After three years, we said a bittersweet goodbye to The Summer I Turned Pretty series with a heart wrenching and emotional finale, which saw Belly and Conrad get back together in Paris, with the end scene showing them come back to Cousins Beach for the first time as a couple.
Daniella: “[Belly and Conrad’s] connection and chemistry never stopped.”
Mordechai is a true super fan, having stayed up late to watch the episode when it first came out on Prime Video, to then diving into fan reactions along with the rest of the TSITP faithful.
Mordechai: “The audience reaction to this last episode was so fun to watch.”
Mordechai and Daniella dive into their finale reactions, including their favorite scenes of the episode. We break down that emotional argument scene between Belly and Conrad in the bedroom and take a look at that Bonrad relationship as a whole throughout the season. We would have loved to see more Belly and Conrad moments through the season to better understand those intentions after Belly shuts down Conrad but comes to realize he is the one she wants.
Daniella: “You could feel the daggers coming out of [Belly] and straight into Conrad in [that argument scene].”
The best part of a show like this is diving into the fan theories and Mordechai and Daniella break some of them down. At some point, was Belly wearing Jeremiah’s engagement ring in Paris? What significance did those Happy Birthday texts to Belly really hold? And what did those Christmas montage photos at the end of the episode hint at?
While we were left with so many questions after the finale, we got the gift 12 hours later of the announcement of a The Summer I Turned Pretty movie! While we don’t know when the movie will be released, Mordechai and Daniella are hoping to see more scenes of Belly and Conrad with their families and friends, a potential wedding scene, and more!
Mordechai: “We’re getting a The Summer I Turned Pretty movie!”
Reflecting on the series as a whole, Mordechai said this is such a timeless show even for millennials, because it brings back the nostalgia of the teen soap drama series. While we had different opinions on the ships of this season, it is clear how timeless this show has become. Mordechai’s takeaway from the series is you tell your own story and control your own destiny, while Daniella said it is a great lesson to be honest and true to yourself.
