Episode 45: A Closer Look into Pixar Animation: First Reactions to Hoppers, Pixar’s surprising history, and best movie debate

In this episode of The Young Entertainment Podcast, Mordechai and Daniella take a deep dive into the world of Pixar! We share our favorite Pixar films, how the company came to be, and even our first early reactions to Hoppers, which is now in theaters!

If you’ve ever wanted a podcast to learn from the stars and get the best masterclass tips and tricks for launching your own career, you’ve come to the right place!

The newest film to Pixar’s lineup, Hoppers, hit theaters today and follows an animal lover named Mabel, voiced by Piper, who uses technology to turn her consciousness into a robotic beaver to communicate with animals and save their habitats from destruction. We recently chatted with actors Bobby Moynihan and Piper Curda, director Daniel Chong and producer Nicole Grindle to learn more about their Pixar aspirations and how the film was made.

Mordechai got a first look at the film and said it dives into the importance of protecting wildlife and family and loved it for the fun animals and great voice performances. Check Hoppers out in theaters now!

Mordechai: “There are some crazy wild things that happen in Hoppers with the animals.”

Similarly to Berkan Dincer of @bigscreenberkan who has developed a rating system for movies, we decided to create our own system based on our current obsession… you guessed it, Hilary Duff songs? Is Hoppers “So Yesterday,” “Why Not,” or “This is What Dreams Are Made Of.”?

We also go down the rabbit hole of Pixar history, even learning that it first started out as a tech company. Former CCO of Pixar John Lasseter was originally at Walt Disney but was ahead of his time and helped to found Pixar with his animation vision. Toy Story was also the first computer animated feature film.

Daniella: “Sometimes things fail at first and then they become the most iconic thing ever.”

Mordechai and Daniella discuss what differentiates Pixar movies from the rest, and agree that it really relies on emotions and feelings and themes of family and friendship, especially in movies like Monsters Inc. and Coco.

Daniella: “Pixar sets themselves apart because they aren’t afraid to dive into emotions even for young children.”

We also discuss some of Pixar’s best villains, most moving soundtracks, and even do a live reaction to the trailer for Toy Story 5, which is out June 19. We love Toy Story for how nostalgic it is and also react to the hidden Easter eggs and biggest fan theories over the movie’s history.

Mordechai: “For Toy Story 5, I’m excited to see all the toys together and work together.”

We end the episode by doing a blind ranking of Pixar movies and discuss the true masterpieces, from The Incredibles to Finding Nemo and WALL-E. Share your all time favorite Pixar movie with us on social media for the chance to win a free copy of our “How to Get an Agent Guide.”
