The Jurassic Park franchise is insanely popular. The series’ first film was released in the summer of 1993, to rave reviews. In recent years, the series was restarted with a new cast. Jurassic Park’s latest installment is set for release in just a few months. The series’ fans are very excited, with many people believing that the latest movie is going to be the best ever released. If you are a fan of the Jurassic Park series and want to know what’s awaiting you in the latest movie, Jurassic World: Dominion, you’re in the right place.
Here’s what to expect:
Dinosaurs Set to Feature
The one thing most of the film’s fans want to know more than anything is what dinosaurs are going to be featured? The full list of dinosaurs includes the terrifying Tyrannosaurus rex, the series’ most famous dinosaurs, Velociraptors, and of course the Giganotosaurus. There is a nice mix of carnivores and herbivores in the film’s latest installment, making it not only a lot of fun but also educational. Fans of paleontology will love the latest installment, just as they likely did the film’s earlier incarnations. With that said, however, it is a film made purely for entertainment purposes, so don’t expect it to be scientifically accurate.
Release Date
The film was originally scheduled for release in the summer of 2021. However, the COVID-19 pandemic struck, and many of the year’s best films were pushed back. The film’s new release date is June 10, 2022. There is no foreseeable reason why the film might be pushed back again, so it’s safe to say that you can book your tickets in advance. Booking tickets in advance is probably a very good idea because it might be extremely difficult to get tickets on the film’s opening weekend – it is highly anticipated.
Runtime
The film’s runtime clocks in at 2 hours and 23 minutes. This makes it the longest film in the series. The longest films prior to this were The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic World: the Fallen Kingdom, which both clocked in at 2 hours and 9 minutes. The extended runtime will definitely please fans. One of the main criticisms of the film’s third installment was its extremely short runtime. As long as the film’s content is engaging, then the extended runtime isn’t going to be a problem. Sometimes films sacrifice content in order to make their films longer, but so far that doesn’t seem to be the case with Dominion.
Cast
Many of the film’s cast are previous characters, reprising their roles. Both Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will return, playing Owen Grady and Claire Dearing again. Isabella Sermon is also returning as Maisie Lockwood. Rumour has it that Justice Smith and Daniella Pineda will return to play their roles of Franklin Webb and Zia Rodrigues, as well as Omar Sy, as Berry Sembene. Unfortunately for fans, however, Jake Johnson won’t be reprising his role as Lowery, after scheduling conflicts. His character’s fate, therefore, remains ambiguous. He could return in future installments.
Jeff Goldblum will be returning to the series, reprising his role in the original film. He returned in the previous film but unfortunately had limited screen time. Jeff Goldblum is an iconic cast member and a fantastic actor, so fans are highly anticipating his return. Goldblum will definitely add a layer of authenticity to the film, connecting the original to the latest installment. BD Wong will also return as Dr. Henry Wu. Die-hard fans will also know that BD Wong was featured in the film’s original.
The film’s villain will be Campbell Scott, who takes over the role of Lewis Dodgson.
Plot
The film’s trailer seems to indicate that the latest film will take place in the real world, where dinosaurs and humans live together. As one might expect, it doesn’t seem to be working out very well. However, if you are hoping for an all-out brawl in large cities and towns, then you are going to be disappointed. This version of the film will tackle dinosaurs in more rural areas. There will be a significant time jump from the events of the last film, which gives the dinosaurs more time to establish a foothold in the United States, and the American government more time to develop technology to fight the dinosaurs.
Dominion will take place in the present day, four years after the last film. It’s also believed that Owen, Claire, and Maise Lockwood will have formed a family unit, working together to defeat the dinosaurs. Lockwood, as fans will know, was revealed to be a clone of the Park’s co-founder Sir Benjamin Lockwood’s late daughter. The ability to clone humans (and not just dinosaurs) will definitely play a significant role in the film’s plot, even if it only serves as a device to push the character’s role forward.
Filming Locations
The Jurassic Park series is known for its breathtaking scenery and fantastic filming locations. The majority of the film’s interior shots were filmed at Bridge Studios in Canada and Pinewood Studios in England. Additionally, filming also takes place in Malta, Hawaii, and the United States. While a lot of the film’s scenes are going to be heavily edited and will involve CGI, we can still expect it to look great (as it did in the other more recent films). Technology has come a long way. It is possible to produce scenery and graphics that are indistinguishable from reality nowadays.
Score
Finally, we arrive at the film’s musical arrangement. The Jurassic Park series has always had fantastic sounds and music. In fact, it is the original film’s theme that most people remember most, more so than the film’s plot. The film’s score was composed by Michael Giacchino. Michael Giacchino is an accomplished composer who also scored the previous Jurassic World films. The score was recorded at England’s Abbey Road Studios (of Beatles fame), and took place over a 10-day period, concluding in May 2021. If you are a fan of music, then you are going to love the film’s score.
The Jurassic Park film franchise is very popular, with people young and old. Whether you are a fan of the film’s original Jurassic Park series, or the later Jurassic World series, you are guaranteed to enjoy Jurassic Park: Dominion. The film will be released in a few months, so if possible, book your tickets now.
