SYNOPSIS:
Lucy and Owen meet somewhere between the tenth and eleventh floors of a New York City apartment building, on an elevator rendered useless by a citywide blackout. After they’re rescued, they spend a single night together, wandering the darkened streets and marveling at the rare appearance of stars above Manhattan. But once the power is restored, so is reality. Lucy soon moves to Edinburgh with her parents, while Owen heads out west with his father.
Lucy and Owen’s relationship plays out across the globe as they stay in touch through postcards, occasional e-mails, and–finally–a reunion in the city where they first met.
WHY SHOULD YOU CHECK IT OUT?
Asking whether or not a one night love-connection can survive the tests of time and distance, if absence makes the heart grow fonder or forgetful, Lucy and Owen’s story is sure to appeal as a great spring read.
The cute, simple cover has just the right amount of high-school-inspired adorableness (who hasn’t drawn little stars or hearts all over a picture?) and worldliness longing (the silhouetted lovers against the skyline, destined to be pulled apart).
Author Jennifer E. Smith also wrote the hit YA Romances ‘THE STATISTICAL PROBABILITY OF LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT’ and ‘THIS IS WHAT HAPPY LOOKS LIKE’!
EARLY REVIEWS SAY…
Smith fashions long-distance travel into a metaphor for the leaps of faith that love demands. … Truth about love always gets our attention, and this book will catch readers. (Kirkus Reviews)
[A] sweet, moody story that can also be deeply heartbreaking… There are plenty of romantic sigh-worthy moments, too, but it’s Owen and Lucy’s individual journeys that really hit home. (Publishers Weekly)
