Apple has never had an easy life. Her mother is abusive and has drug problems. She’s gearing Apple’s life to head the same way. In order to track down the father she’s never known and try to rise above her circumstances, Apple runs away from her mother. When she tracks him down she learns he’s a successful stockbroker. He takes her in, but she shortly learns she’s pregnant and he kicks her out. The baby’s father is someone from her street days and doesn’t want anything to do with Apple, either. Finally, a kind clergy member helps Apple get settled at a shelter for pregnant young women and she finally meets other people who really understand where she’s coming from and she begins to learn what it means to be part of a family.
