With the release of the new YA novel, Life By Committee by Corey Ann Haydu, let’s take a look at some of the best YA Books involving group therapy.

The premise of Life By Committee is something so many teens can relate to. Main character, Tabitha, is feeling super lost. Her best friend ditched her, her Vermont town is too small, and she’s totally crushing on a guy named Joe, who happens to have a girlfriend already. Who hasn’t felt lost like Tabitha before? Well, she turns to an online support group, something many teens could benefit from. The book is sure to heartfelt and meaningful.

The Fault In Our Stars is another great YA novel that exposes the benefits of group therapy for teens. Hazel is sixteen and has terminal cancer. When she meets Augustus at her kids-with-cancer support group, her life changes as the two kindred spirits support one another through very trying times. It’s a tear jerker but worth the ride!

Another book similar to the two above novels is Go Ask Alice by Beatrice Sparks. The classic 35 year-old book explores the disastrous spiral drug addiction can take on one’s life, especially at a young age. With several scenes involving group therapy, audiences have been captivated by Alice’s dark, troubling world and her struggles to remain alive. Each book takes on monstrous themes that are important for teens to read, talk and learn about. Sometimes it can be hard to raise your hand and ask for help but these novels prove that group support can be extremely beneficial in troubling life moments.
