The Muppets premiered on ABC last week with their new mockumentary style show that goes behind the scenes of Missy Piggy’s late night talk show, and everybody who’s anybody is clamoring for a guest spot on the ABC hit. Here’s our list of most exciting guests that have appeared or are confirmed to be visiting Kermy, Piggy, and the gang very soon!!!
Nathan Fillion
The “ruggedly handsome” star of ABC’s Castle makes a memorable and hilarious appearance in promos for the show, playing what appears to be Piggy’s rebound from Kermit, perhaps only to make Kermit a bit green with envy. If you don’t know Fillion from Castle, you might be familiar with him as space cowboy Mal in Firefly and Serenity, both from Avengers director Joss Whedon. If the Firefly universe is new to you, check it out, because it’s a swashbuckling space western with the unique distinction of featuring both horses and aliens. But back on earth, while we only see Mr. Fillion in promotional footage, here’s hoping that he makes the cut as a full time love interest for the HPIC (Head Pig In Charge)!
Elizabeth Banks
The director of Pitch Perfect 2 stars as herself in the series’ premiere episode. She’s booked as a guest on Miss Piggy’s late night talk show, much to Piggy’s dismay. Why precisely does Piggy want her off the show so badly? It has to do with her much publicized break up with Kermit earlier in the summer. But is Miss Banks, gasp, the other woman? It’s a bit more complicated than that… But hopefully we will see more of the comedian this season.
Josh Groban
The pop singer also stars as himself, and he’s lucky enough to have the chance to cozy up to Miss Piggy. Josh stars as a new beau for Piggy…sounds scandalous. Will Kermy get jealous of the smooth crooner?
Riki Lindhome
You might know Riki as one half of the musical comedy duo Garfunkel and Oates, or you might know her from Comedy Central’s Another Period (she’s also guested on like everything including Fresh Off the Boat, New Girl, and even does voice work on Adventure Time). Lucky for us, Riki took time from her crazy sched to join the cast of The Muppets playing Fozzie’s GF Becky, and Becky has some old-fashioned parents. They don’t approve of the relationship…because Fozzie is a BEAR!!! Can you imagine?? Some people are just stuck in the past, right? We hope these two crazy kids make it, though, because they are so sweet together!!
Laurence Fishburne
The Black-ish star also makes a turn as himself, but it’s not clear just yet in what capacity, though we’d wager that he will be a guest on Miss Piggy’s talk show. Or maybe he will get all Matrix on us and do Kung Fu. That actually would be pretty cool!!
Lea Thompson
You probably know Miss Thompson as one of Bay and Daphne’s moms in Switched At Birth, and now she joins the cast of The Muppets in an as yet unknown role. As the former star of Back To The Future and general Gen X icon, it’s possible she will playing herself and playing off of her character from the BTTF trilogy. Or it’s entirely possible she may play a unique character. Either way, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for the SAB star!!!
Liam Hemsworth
Do we even need to say why we are excited? The Hunger Games star is reported on the interwebs as a confirmed guest star, but nothing is really announced as to his role, but it’s speculated that he will play another Piggy suitor, either as himself or a unique character. Piggy is in demand these days, and she deserves a nice young beau hunk like Liam!!!
Reese Witherspoon
The Oscar winner will also guest as herself, another visitor to Miss Piggy’s talk show. But will the Wild star play friend or foe? Maybe green is her favorite color? Hmmmm…we’ll see.
Patricia Heaton
Like Nathan Fillion, The Middle star Patricia Heaton has thus far only been seen in promo bits. She has yet to be confirmed for a proper guest spot, but the Everybody Loves Raymond star kills it in her show teasers. Here’s hoping we see more of her later in the season!!!
Christina Applegate
The Anchorman star will also pull duty as herself as one of Piggy’s late night guests, it’s reported. Hopefully the charismatic comedic actress will bring laughs to both Piggy’s show and The Muppets!!!
Bonus: Imagine Dragons
The Vegas arena rockers guest star in the premiere episode as the musical guest on Piggy’s late night talk show. Leading us to wonder…will there be a musical guest each week? We’ll just have to wait and see!!!
