Heartstopper Season 2 | Who Should Play Nick Nelson’s Older Brother?

It’s no secret that Heartstopper was a smash hit, with it sitting on Netflix’s top 10 TV shows list for weeks on end. The fan-favorite show, which is based on a series of graphic novels by the same title, was renewed for a 2nd season, leaving even more characters and storylines to be introduced. One thing that we are particularly curious to see play out is the dynamic between Nick and his older brother, David. According to a tweet by Alice Oseman, the author of the novels, David is “Nick’s older brother by four years. he hasn’t appeared yet in heartstopper bc he’s at uni. he’s a biphobic asshole.” Whoever takes up this role will obviously have quite the task to fill, and we can’t help but wonder who will be cast. Here are some of our top picks of who we think should play David Nelson!

1. Hunter Parrish

You may recognize Hunter from his roles in Weeds and 17 Again, and we think he would be perfect for the role of David. He matches the physical description and drawings of David pretty well; all he would need is to put on a British accent, and he would be set to be a great David!

2. Graham Rogers

We would love to see Graham play David! We think he could definitely bring the character to life and have a really interesting dynamic with Kit Conner, who plays Nick. You can catch Graham in Atypical and Quantico to get a better sense of his acting style!

3. Ben Hardy

as Roger Taylor in the film Bohemian Rhapsody, so needless to say, he would bring a lot of talent to the cast!

4. Jamie Campbell Bower

We’ve recently seen Jamie kill it in the role of Vecna/001 in Stranger Things season 4, and we would love to see him in another antagonist role; only this time, it would be in a completely different context. Also, he’s definitely got the look down to play David.

5. Sam Claflin

From playing Finnick in The Hunger Games to Will in Me Before You, Sam has shown great acting range, and we would love to see him in the role of David. The blonde hair, British accent, and stellar acting chops would make for a great onscreen performance!

While these are our top picks, we can’t wait to see who ends up being cast as David! The character is definitely interesting and should bring new conflict and storylines to season 2 of the show. If you haven’t already, be sure to catch up on Charlie and Nick’s story by watching the first season of Heartstopper on Netflix, and don’t forget to check out some of YEM’s exclusive content on the show!
