Broadway star Andrew Barth Feldman joined Season 2 of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series as the recurring guest character, Antoine, a French exchange student. Except he won’t be joining the show as a Wildcat but as a student at the rival school, North High, and it was originally announced that they would be putting on a production of The Little Mermaid.
Feldman is no stranger to musicals or the theater. The actor previously starred as the lead role in Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway, so there is no doubt that he’ll fit in perfectly on HSMTMTS. He also recently starred as Alfredo Linguini in a production of Ratatouille the Musical. We believe he would have been cast in the role of Prince Eric, who longs for Ariel and her beautiful singing voice. In the Broadway performance of the musical, Prince Eric sings the song “Her Voice,” originally performed by Sean Palmer in the stage version.
But as we now know North High will also be performing Beauty and the Beast. As great as it would have been to see Feldman as Prince Eric, we suspect he’ll play the role of Lumiere and perform “Be Our Guest” instead. Lumiere is the castle’s charming maître d’ turned candelabra who is the footman to the Beast. He was played by Gary Beach in Broadway’s first production of the musical in 1994, and we are so excited to see Feldman possibly tackle this role next.
It’ll be interesting to see how North High adapts Beauty and the Beast for their stage version and how it will differ from East High’s production. Season 2 will be giving us a lot of fun music and new twists on a classic Disney favorite. We are super excited to see Andrew Barth Feldman join the cast this season and how he takes on his new role!
