Welcome back, Wildcats, to a new season and a new musical! High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 2 has arrived, bringing with it more songs and more drama. Let’s take a look at the top things we discovered in the first episode of the season, New Year’s Eve.
Nini and Ricky
Of course, this has to be the first thing we touch on. Nini and Ricky’s rekindled romance is still going strong. We see this in the opening musical sequence when they’re paired up to sing together. And let’s not forget the scene on Christmas night when they exchange gifts and Ricky sings a song he wrote for Nini!
Ashlyn hosts a New Year’s Eve party
And her co-host is Gina. In HSMTMTS season 1, Ashlyn offers to let Gina move in with her, so Gina can stay in town with her friends and keep going to East High. They announce hosting a New Year’s Eve party, leaving us prepping for whatever events will unfold later in the episode.
After her singing abilities were discovered by Miss Jenn in season 1, this season finds Kourtney ready to reinvent herself. She has goals to get herself out there and possibly even audition for the next musical at East High. We hope to see it happen!
Miss Jenn has an unexpected reunion
While out costume shopping with Carlos, Miss Jenn bumps into the last person she expects to see—Zachy, an old ex from high school who left her to attend the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. They haven’t seen each other in 17 years, and Miss Jenn discovers he’s back in town to help with a musical at North High, their old high school. The scandal!
Ricky sings Bet On It from High School Musical 2
Yes, we get more familiar songs in HSMTMTS season 2! Ricky sings Bet On It, a solo song that Troy Bolton sings in High School Musical 2. Word is that the next musical the East High theater will be putting on is High School Musical 2, which makes sense for season 2, right? The Wildcats may be in for a surprise.
The Resolution Game
Ashlyn convinces everyone at the party to write down a New Year’s resolution that they’ll be sharing with the group. What could possibly go wrong with a game like this? Nini’s secret is nearly spilled when her resolution is that she’s willing to go wherever she needs to be successful. Ricky still doesn’t know that Nini plans on moving to Denver to attend the Young Actors Conservatory.
New Year’s Kiss
Ashlyn spends most of the party wondering why Big Red isn’t there. Meanwhile, Big Red has been roped in by his mom to deliver pizzas that night. In a turn of events, Big Red makes it to the party just in time to kiss Ashlyn when the clock turns midnight and officially rings in the New Year!
And the next musical is. . .
Not High School Musical 2. HSMTMTS season 2 will see the cast tackle Beauty and the Beast as their next musical. Miss Jenn arrives at the party to make the grand announcement, and that’s not all. They’ll also be entering a competition for high school musical theater. The same competition Zachy will be entering with North High. We are very excited to see how this goes!
