The highly anticipated film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best selling book “It Ends with Us” is finally here! The book became incredibly popular after getting attention from countless readers on TikTok and is now on the big screen with a star-studded cast. Before its release, we chatted with Isabela Ferrer, who plays a young Lily Bloom, to learn more about working with Blake Lively, how she filmed intense scenes, and the best part of being a part of this massive production.

 

It Ends with Us is directed by Justin Baldoni and follows Lily Bloom who overcomes a traumatic childhood to embark on a new life. A chance meeting with Ryle, a neurosurgeon, sparks a connection but Lily begins to see sides of him that remind her of her parents’ relationship. When Lily’s first love, Atlas Corrigan, re enters her life, Lily realizes she must rely on her own inner strength to make a choice for her future.The film stars Blake Lively as Lily Bloom, Baldoni as Ryle Kincaid, Brandon Sklenar as Atlas Corrigan, Alex Neustaedter as a young Atlas, Jenny Slate as Allysa, Hasan Minhaj as Marshall, and Amy Morton as Jenny. 

Isabela graduated from Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama. It Ends with Us is Isabela’s film debut but she also starred in the television series Evil and Fire Burning. Isabela said her first day on set was surreal, and to see the fans’ devotion to this story and these characters was so special. 

“[My first day on set] was like stepping into another world. It was fully experiencing and witnessing what the future version of my character ends up creating and building.”

Isabela said it was helpful that she had a book to reference when studying Lily Bloom, including the first person narrative through the diary entries from the story. Colleen Hoover was also incredibly involved in the process and during filming and was available to answer questions about the characters. 

“Colleen Hoover gave us such a great book to start with that it almost kind of served as a second script for both of us.”

Since Isabela was playing a younger version of Blake Lively’s character, she said both of them had conversations about how to portray Lily. Isabela said it was amazing how in sync Blake and her were in understanding who Lily is.

“Me and [Blake Lively] had such a similar idea of who Lily was and who she is.”

As a young actor, Isabela said Blake was also incredibly generous and made sure she knew that the role of Lily was just as much her role as it was Blake’s. 

“Everyone was so cooperative on set and it was such a comfortable environment that when I see my work, I feel good about it.”

Like many actors these days, Isabela said she found solace in music while filming and was able to create a playlist of songs to ground herself after filming more intense scenes. 

“Music was huge for me in this process and to prepare with. There’s a lot of intense scenes and I think there are certain songs in my life that have brought me a lot of comfort.”
