Jack of all trades Bo Mitchell talks advice for young actors and biggest inspirations he’s worked with

Bo Mitchell is a jack of all trades as an actor, skateboarder, and entrepreneur. He’s had quite a journey in the entertainment industry and has a long list of incredible projects to his name. We got to chat with Bo to learn all about his acting career, the incredible and talented people he has worked with in the past, and how he gets ready for a day on set.

Bo hails from South Carolina and has been acting since he was nine months old. You may recognize Bo for playing Wayne Powers in the hit HBO series Eastbound and Down. He also had a guest starring role as Brucks on the Netflix show Cobra Kai. Bo has many other great projects to his name, and his next role is in the upcoming film The Line, also starring Alex Wolff, Halle Bailey, and more!

Bo has been in the entertainment industry for most of his life, and he’s gotten to work with some great people over the years. We asked Bo about many of his prior experiences and he has such heartwarming stories for them all, like working with Laura Prepon in the show October Road, James Franco in Palo Alto, and Danny McBride in Eastbound and Down

Bo also stars alongside some incredible young talent in his new film The Line, and he said he loves to watch others his age work on set and they really help to set the tone for Bo’s own performances.

“Working with folks my age is just so fun.”

So much of getting into character falls on hair, makeup, and wardrobe and Bo said this part of the process is important to him. When he fully steps into his character’s clothes, whether they are things Bo himself would wear or completely different, he really embraces the character and role he is playing.

“Going into hair, makeup and wardrobe is a really powerful tool for myself to get into character.”

With so many projects under his belt, Bo understands what he needs to do to get into the mindset of his character and the work. He joked that he loves to do vocal warmups, especially when his character has an accent, karaoke in the car, and enjoys mantras and affirmations.

“It is all about making sure I’m just going to be ready to go to work and in character.”

With all the experienced and talented actors and actresses Bo has worked with, he also loves to fully learn about what goes into making an entire TV show or movie. He said he loves to learn and talk with workers behind the scenes to learn every moving part of a production. Talk about commitment and dedication!

“The fellow actors are great and a great group to talk to but I love the entire world that it takes to make these [productions happen].

Be sure to watch the rest of the interview where we ask him more about tips for getting an agent and navigating social media and some of his favorite talents to work with! While you’re there, like and subscribe to our channel for the latest news in young entertainment.

Consider this:

  • The best way to get an agent is to send in a reel that showcases all your various talents and projects. If you are just starting out in the industry, make videos with friends, whether it is a skit, editing and doing special effects, and don’t be afraid to try new things to showcase your talents!
  • Take advantage of your opportunities and learn about the entire production while you’re on a set, not solely just your role. You can learn as much from your fellow actors as you can from the camera operators, hair, makeup, and wardrobe people, etc!
