After playing Fletcher Quimby on ANT Farm, the illustrious actor, director and martial artist Jake Short is excited to embark on a new series, as Oliver in Mighty Med. He sat down with us at YA Mag to discuss his experiences with both projects.
YOUNG ADULT: What is the most interesting part of being able to star in your own series, Mighty Med?
JAKE SHORT: Mighty Med is so much fun – lots of stunts and visual effects. It is very different from ANT Farm.
YA: Talk to us about being involved in popular YA shows like ANT Farm. What were the standout experiences?
JS: I loved playing Fletcher even though he was sort of dumb. At times, playing Fletcher was a little challenging, but it was always fun. I also loved doing stunts on ANT Farm!
YA: Describe your favorite character you’ve played thus far. Who is he? What about him most resembles you?
JS: I have really enjoyed playing both characters [Fletcher Quimby on ANT Farm and Oliver on Mighty Med]; they are fun and challenging in different ways. Oliver resembles me more than Fletcher; I am a terrible artist, but I love sports!
YA: Any fun stories to happen off camera while on set?
JS: The bloopers really do happen and are quite funny. We usually see the blooper reel at the wrap party; they are hilarious.
YA: What has been the best acting or professional advice you’ve received?
JS: “Keep your head on straight!”
YA: If you had to pick only one word to describe you, ACTOR or KID, which would it be and why?
JS: KID – I am always having fun! Seriously, I love acting; I get to have fun while working.
YA: If you could play any role from any film or TV show in history, who would it be and why?
JS: I always wanted to play “Mike” in Monsters, Inc. I know I can’t be an animated character, but a five-year-old can dream.
YA: What would you say is your favorite YA story, book or film?
JS: Picking my favorite is really difficult – Star Wars or The Hobbit would have to be at the top of the list.
