Meet Kailey Swanson! Kailey has just released her newest single Country Love Song, and is set to take over the Nashville country music scene. You may recognize her from roles on Disney’s “Kickin It”, ABC’s “Mixology” and the “The Legend Of Beaver Dam.”, but if not, don’t feel bad … we caught up with Kailey to find out everything you need to know. Check out our cheat sheet below:
Young Adult: How was growing up in Vegas? Can you describe a little bit what the vibe is like to be there if you’re not a tourist (and too young to partake in Vegas’ famed party scene)?
Kailey Swason: Growing up in Vegas is probably not any different than growing up anywhere else! When you live there as a kid, you don’t really think about the “Strip”…..of course, you also don’t think twice about seeing a slot machine in the grocery store because it’s always been there haha!
I took dance classes, piano, voice lessons, sang at our church and kept busy with school! And Vegas has a wonderful growing theatre scene so we were always looking for community theatre plays to do or go see!
YA: How did you get your start in the music industry?
KS: I started writing my own music about five years ago. It really grew from my desire to express myself
YA: Can you talk a little bit about your song writing process?
KS: Sure! I keep a journal, well I have about 10 actually, I write down EVERYTHING and from my experiences or thoughts, lyrics evolve. I have co-written my last four songs with Jill Krachmer and so we bounce ideas off of each other until we have a final product!
YA: Your TV/film soundtrack work is very cool – how did those collaborations come about?
KS: Thank you! I’ve been blessed to work with a really amazing team. Luke Tozour, who produced Country Love Song and Jared Segal who directed the video have amazing creative input and just make the whole process fun!
YA: How many guitars do you own, and which is your favorite?
KS: I have 3 guitars right now. They’re all my favorites actually! I have emotional bounds with them and I get very protective when people touch them. I guess you could say the mama bear in me comes out.
YA: Do you ever do any acting now, or are you solely focussed on your singing career?
KS: I’m currently very passionate about my music. But, acting is still very important to me
YA: Do you have a music crush? Any artist that you would be bowled over to work with?
KS: Of course I do! I honestly have too many to list BUT if you insist….I love Hunter Hayes, Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, and Jake Owen. :))
YA: Where do you spend the majority of your time now?
KS: With my guitar and journal! But seriously, I spend most of my time in Southern California but I hope to spend more time in Nashville over the course of the next year.
YA: What’s your favorite snack food?
KS: Puffins!!! They’re a cereal and they are the most delicious things in the entire world. I recommend the peanut butter
YA: Are you on the road anytime soon? Any chance of our readers catching a live Kailey Swanson show?
KS: I sure hope so. That would be a dream come true
