ABOUT THE ALBUM: Placebo might not be familiar to some readers here but they should be. This British band has helped to fill a hole left by the Pixies, Sonic Youth, PJ Harvey and more and have gone on to influence bands including My Bloody Valentine. They’ve managed to create their own individual sound while carrying on an important pop-punk legacy and remaining authentic to who they are. Placebo utilizes androgynous images and musical content, which makes for an interesting listening experience. So far they have released six studio albums, all of which have reached the top 20 in the United Kingdom, and have sold around 11 million records worldwide. Loud Like Love will be their seventh album. Look for it on 9/17/13.

SINGLE SPOTLIGHT: “Too Many Friends” is a love/hate note to technology and what it represents in our daily lives. It’s oddly prescient and eerie in a way that is unsettling. Thematics aside, the song is melodically pleasing and catchy in it’s own unique way. These guys were and continue to be trendsetters and “Too Many Friends” is just another example of that.
