Michael Sanzone first got his start in content creation, but music and songwriting has since become his passion. Even with only three songs released thus far, Michael has already amassed over 155k monthly Spotify listeners, with fans connecting to the relatable messages in his music. His latest single “Going, Going, Gone” is out now! We got to chat with Michael ahead of the song’s release to learn more about the meaning behind the lyrics, his journey as an influencer and musician, and his dream collabs.

Michael calls Los Angeles home, and originally was focused on his content journey, making comedic videos for his millions of followers. Fellow artist JVKE, known for his song “golden hour”, ignited Michael’s passion for music by inviting him to record. Michael said while he first started out only doing social media, he had always loved music and the opportunity and recognition from JVKE led him to pursue it.

“From that day on, I was like music is definitely where I want to go with everything.”

“Going, Going, Gone” is Michael’s fourth released song, following “Tear It Down,” “Home” and “The Fall.” The song is based on Michael’s relationship with his grandmother who passed away seven years ago. He said he wanted to turn those happy memories into a cheerful song about living life and taking advantage of every opportunity. 

We asked Michael to describe his music so far, and he said it’s a range of emotions packed into each song. Whether you’re looking for love stories, break up stories, or any other lyrics about different stages of relationships, Michael enjoys writing songs that people can relate to. He is influenced by many current folk-pop icons including Ed Sheeran, James Arthur, and Lewis Capaldi. He said he would love to collaborate with Capaldi one day, and with their similar sounds, we cannot wait to see this happen!

“[My songs] are a mix of emotions. There’s love stories, there’s break up stories. There’s the transition of going through a break up to a love story.”

We asked Michael about his songwriting process, and he revealed he usually likes to write alone about any experiences he is going through and then takes those ideas into a recording session. He loves working on music with fellow influencer and musician Alex Warren and always loves to share songs with family and friends before putting them out into the world. 

“Music is truly my passion, it is my way of speaking… [My songs] are my stories and hopefully they are things that other people can relate to.”

Michael’s journey from TikTok to a music career is special to him, and his advice for anyone looking to get started in anything creative is to just start doing it and not wait or care what anyone else has to say. 

“Just attack every dream that you have right now. Don’t wait for anything. If you’re good at singing, just sing.”
