SYNOPSIS:
When Eva Tilling wakes up in the hospital, she’s confused—who in her sleepy little North Carolina town could have hit her with their car? And why? But before she can consider the question, she finds that she’s awoken with a strange new skill: the ability to foresee people’s deaths when they touch her. While she is recovering from the hit-and-run, Nate, an old flame, reappears, and the two must traverse their rocky past as they figure out how to use Eva’s power to keep her friends—and themselves—alive. But while Eva and Nate grow closer, the killer grows increasingly frantic in his attempt to get to Eva.
WHY SHOULD YOU CHECK IT OUT?
There’s a lot of novels in the YA genre that involves teens hit by cars, or hunted by stalkers, or discovering they have supernatural powers. But we are pretty dang sure that none of them are going to compare to Eva’s story (especially because Melissa Marr rocks our socks off!) Frankly, we’re hoping that Nate is the obvious and actual killer, because that would make our day.
The cover evokes mystery, danger and just a little bit of glamour. The shiny, slick insect has appeal as both creepy and beautiful, while the image of finding such a creature inside a ring box gives us the heebie-jeebies! Meanwhile, the trio of petals and the slightly askew lettering for the title add an even more unsettling tone.
Melissa Marr lives in Virginia with her spouse, children, and many dogs. But she “grew up believing in faeries, ghosts, and various other creatures. After teaching college literature for a decade, she applied her fascination with folklore to writing”. Now she writes for all ages and her books have been translated into over two dozen languages. You’ve probably heard of, if not devoured, her young adult novels in the WICKED LOVELY series or the UNTAMED CITY series. Find Melissa online at www.Melissa-Marr.com!
EARLY REVIEWS SAY…
The book is broken up by chapters in voices other than Eva’s, the most absorbing of which is Judge, a sexually twisted religious zealot obsessed with Eva, who believes he’s communicating with her through the flowers he leaves on his victims. Readers know he’s the killer but not who he is among Eva’s acquaintances. … Marr, who generally explores supernatural themes, here pens a tightly choreographed spine-chiller with an intriguing view into the mind of a psychopath. This riveting whodunit delivers a bouquet of teen romance, paranormal and thriller. (Kirkus Reviews)
