“We just wrapped! Oh my gosh, I’m so excited!” Madison Iseman laughs. She is referring to Laid in America, her latest film that follows two foreign exchange high-school students who are kidnapped during their quest to, ahem, get lucky on their last night in America.
While getting lucky might be on the forefront of other teens’ agendas, Madison has a lot more important stuff on her mind. She’s a busy bee having amassed a following of over 14,500 on her Youtube channel, where she does everything from covering the latest singles to creating fashion look books, all in between acting gigs. “I’m still trying to figure out exactly where I want to take it. I do the fashion. I do the lifestyle. I do covers. I would really love to find a way to incorporate my acting into it more, maybe with short films, but right now it’s just a place I have to interact with my followers and people that want to know about my life. I do a little bit of everything.”
While Madison has myriad interests, it’s clear that acting is her top priority. Madison moved from South Carolina to LA at the young age of 16 to pursue her acting career. “Acting, of course, is my number 1. It’s what I love to do… But at the same time I’ve kind of found myself in a social influencing position, so it’s really fun to have both because I’m able to have that personal connection with fans and followers and viewers other than just being on a screen… It’s extra cool too because these people who follow you get super excited when you do bigger projects.”
That accessibility and personal connection are both palpable in our conversation. She’s charming, down to earth and super fun. It’s no wonder she describes the set of Laid in America as “one big family.” On her experience filming she says, “It was probably one of the most fun projects I’ve absolutely ever worked on…They couldn’t have gotten a more perfect cast. The chemistry is just awesome. I remember we’d be filming until like 3:00 in the morning, on the 20th take and still dying laughing.”
All this laughter is a bit new to Madison. She’s only recently been finding herself taking more comedic roles. “I consider myself more of a dramatic actor. The past year I’ve really been working on my comedy chops, and it’s been awesome.” But Madison reports that classic comedy actresses like Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon have been a huge inspiration to her. So what’s up next for this young multi-talent? She’s taking on more comedy and currently shooting a new comedy TV series following high school teachers who can’t get anything right. Meanwhile, Laid In America is currently awaiting a set release date.
