Max Charles is back as the young Peter Parker in new release The Amazing Spiderman 2. Here, he shares with us about being such a busy actor at a young age, what it’s like doing voice over work and more…

Max CharlesYOUNG ADULT: What is the most exciting part of being involved in The Amazing Spider-Man franchise?

Max Charles: It was so cool being on the set and meeting Andrew Garfield and working with the director Marc Webb. It’s awesome that I get to play young Peter Parker and they have never shown Peter Parker as a kid before these films!

YA: At just 10 years old, you’ve already been involved in a whole slew of impressive shows and films. Any standout experiences thus far?

MC: Thats a great question and a hard one. I’ve been pretty lucky so far and have worked with some great people. I really like being Max Weaver on The Neighbors and we are like family since we have done 2 seasons. I’m really good friends with Isabella and Ian, the two kids on the show.  Playing Sherman in Mr Peabody and Sherman was really cool too because it was my first big animation movie and I got to work with an awesome director, Rob Minkoff. But I have to say it’s pretty cool to be Peter Parker!

YA: We are particular fans of Family Guy and Robot Chicken. You also recently voiced the character of Sherman in the Peabody and Sherman film. What’s it like being such a young voice over actor?

MC: Its always really fun to be on Family Guy, American Dad and Robot Chicken! I’ve done recurring roles on all of them and it’s fun to do different characters and try different types of voices. Its really different than live action because you don’t have to think about the cameras. You can do whatever you want to do in the booth and make faces and stuff. I really like being Sherman because he is always on an adventure and has a ton of fun. Sherman really seems like he would be fun to be friends with.

YA: Which do you prefer, live action or voice work?

MC: I really like them both because they are so different.  I hope I get to do a ton of both!

YA: Any fun stories to happen off camera while on set?

MC: There are tons of fun stories off camera but two of my favorites are the time I went to New York to film Amazing Spiderman 2 and I met my tv dad from The Neighbors and his family at Times Square for pizza! It was really fun.  It was also cool to ring the NASDAQ bell with Ty Burrell who plays Mr Peabody and our director Rob Minkoff.

YA: You are getting your start in acting quite early. How do you juggle your new work commitments with school?

MC: We have a set teacher on every set and do our schoolwork on set.

YA: What has been the best acting advice you’ve received so far?

MC: Probably that it’s ok to ask to do over a take or an action if I feel like I can do better. And the other advice is to be a kid and do kid things!

YA: If you had to choose only ONE of these two words—ACTOR or KID—to define yourself, which would it be and why?

MC: Definitely KID haha I even have that on my twitter description page.  I’m just a kid who acts.

YA: If you could play any role from any film or TV show in history, who would it be and why?

MC: Dr Who! He’s awesome! I would love to be Dr Who someday!

YA: What would you say is your favorite YA story, book or film?

MC: Right now I have to say my favorite movies are Amazing Spiderman 2 and Mr Peabody and Sherman. 🙂
