Wildcats, this one is for you because High School Musical is on its way back! The popular Disney Channel franchise is taking on new life. Disney announced that a High School Musical series will be coming to its upcoming streaming service. Also, the show will be called High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (no really, that’s the name).
Last week, Disney released the cast of the upcoming series. And the casting news includes some familiar faces! For one, Andi Mack star Sofia Wylie will be a part of the HSM series. According to Entertainment Weekly, Sofia will play Gina, an “ambitious and entitled” transfer student “with as many skeletons in the closet as she has credits on her résumé.” She’s not happy that she got placed as the understudy. Sounds like a Sharpay to me!
There’s not a star in heaven that we can’t reach
The rest of the cast includes Joshua Bassett (from Stuck in the Middle), Olivia Rodrigo (from Bizaardvark), Matt Cornett (from Bella and the Bulldogs) and Dara Renee (from Freaky Friday).
The 10 episode series is expected to premiere later this year. It will follow the group of students as they gear up for opening night of their school’s first-ever production of High School Musical. Also, sources say that the show will take place at East High, where the franchise all began. Plus new songs and acoustic “rehearsal-room” interpretations of High School Musical numbers.
So are you excited to return to East High? Tell us in the comments!
