Melissa and Joey has been nothing but kind to fans of 90’s sitcoms. With the rebirth of Melissa Joan Hart’s career also comes that of Joey Lawrence. Our favorite bad boy has had some awesome moments on the telly with gems like Gimme a Break!, Blossom and Brotherly Love, how could anyone not adore Mr. Lawrence? Not to mention his awesome moves on Dancing with the Stars.
In 1983, Gimme a Break! Began with an unfamiliar storyline and lots of laughs. A black housekeeper keeps order in the home of a portly white police chief after his wife dies. He’s left with with three daughters and while he tries to cope, Nell does her best to be a friend and mother figure to the group. Joey was a six-year-old orphan and sometimes hustler who joined the cast in the 1983 season. Joey’s run on the show was well received and loved by many. His adorable demeanor and knack for jokes won many over.
Next up on the Joey Lawrence amazing list is his run on Blossom from 1991-1995. Following Blossom’s life, with her many teenage ups and downs, Joey was frequently by her side delivering his drawn out token catchphrase, “Whoa!” Playing a not-so-smart baseball player and ladies man, Joey was the older brother everyone wished they had. The show was a great example for teens to be who they are and feel free to do so.
One of the best shows that Joey Lawrence graced was Brotherly Love. Showing Joey and his real life brothers, audiences related to the family dynamic and the constant teenage struggles. The show was funny, significant and super honest. It was as close as shows got to reality TV at the time and paved the way for many of the family sit coms on air today.
Although Joey has always been an actor, his surprisingly long stint on Dancing With The Stars blew everyone’s socks off. Coming in third place with partner Edyta Sliwinska, fans were totally bummed when he didn’t nab the mirror ball trophy. He was asked to dance on the All Star show but politely declined because he though it should be all runner-ups and no champions, like Emmitt Smith, who won his season and performed on All Stars. Joey has always been able to win the hearts of females but he’s also managed to make a long and glorified career with some of the best shows ever.
