In other big news, The Maze Runner sequel continues to build its cast. We’ve now got Jacob Lofland on board for The Scorch Trials, playing Aris Jones, a young boy the Gladers meet after escaping the Maze who has a connection to the people who built it. Also part of the cast is Rosa Salazar, of American Horror Story and Parenthood, as lead Brenda (and a love interest for Dylan O’Brien’s Thomas).
Here is the official cast list for The Angry Birds animated movie! Jason Sudeikis, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, Danielle Brooks and Kate McKinnon have all signed on to lend their voices to the film based on the game.
The Grand Budapest Hotel’s Tony Revolori is set for The 5th Wave opposite Miss Moretz, playing a medic in the rebel human army. And here we have it—another movie based on a video game. Desperate Housewives’ Jesse Metcalfe and Once Upon a Time’s Meghan Ory will be a part of Dead Rising: Watchtower. Based on the video game, the zombie film will follow a journalist trapped inside a shopping mall who must utilize limited resources to find a way to escape.
TWISTED’s Maddie Hasson is joining Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen in the Hank Williams biopic I Saw The Light. The film will focus on the life and music of prominent country singer Hank Williams (Hiddleston). Hasson will play Billie Jean, the teenager who pursued Williams after he divorced his first wife, Audrey (Olsen).
IN DEVELOPMENT
To add to the list of films based on video games (the above Angry Birds and Dead Rising, next summer’s Pixels, etc.), we now have a Tetris film in the works. This is a head scratcher though, since the game does not feature any characters—only building blocks. Perhaps they will delve into the game’s Russian origins?
