MTV Video Music Awards
This year may be the best yet to celebrate young musicians, actors and talent at the 2014 MTV VMA’s coming your way August 24th. The slate of presenters and performers is beyond amazing. Performers include heavy hitters such as Taylor Swift, Rita Ora and Iggy Azalea performing Black Widow and more. Attendees and honorees include music superstars like Beyonce, Pharrell, Jay-Z, Miley Cyrus and Sia to name a few. The recent announcement that Lucy Hale is taking over the pre-show has us more than ready to tune in. To prep for the show, we’ve picked 5 awards that we’re excited for and who we hope should win each one.

Video of the Year – This is the most coveted trophy of them all, arguably. The competition is tight this year but we hope that Pharrell walks away with the Moonman for the inimitable Happy.

Best Lyric Video – Lyric videos have increased in popularity over the past few years at an exponential rate. We particularly loved Demi Lovato and Cher Lloyd’s one for Really Don’t Care.

Artist to Watch – Receiving this award usually foretells good things for the winner. We love all the nominees, but think that Sam Smith had an especially banner year.

Best Collaboration – An example where the sum is greater than the parts, an amazing music collaboration can heat up the charts faster and better than an artist alone can. We loved Beyonce and Jay-Z’s collab on Drunk In Love.

Best Video With A Social Message – A somewhat progressive category, we love the attention being brought to positive social messaging. We hope that Beyonce takes this one for Pretty Hurts.
