music-interview-honours

This is Brit band Honours … we love their new track “Bulletproof“; it’s memorable indie pop with a message that we can definitely get on board with.  We asked Honours a few questions about their single and accompanying off the wall video, facepaints, and their forthcoming gig with Sam Smith.  Check out the full interview here:

YA Mag: Honours!  It’s an honour to talk to you.  Where does your name come from?  Did you graduate with first class honours from uni?

Honours: Eddy actually did but that’s not where the name came from. After three months of dreadful ideas, a friend in New York sent this one to us and we loved it. We also couldn’t believe it hadn’t been taken.

YA: Where in the UK do you guys hail from?

H: North West London

YA: You have a single coming out on October 27th.  What was the inspiration for the song?

H: The song is about letting go of trying to be perfect and instead trying to just be yourself. Living in London there’s a lot of pressure to get everything right all of the time, but sometimes mistakes can lead to something beautiful and sometimes being correct can feel mechanical.

YA: The video is also pretty mind bending.  Whose idea was that?

H: Our friend Davey Spens had the idea of painting our faces for the single artwork. When we saw the photos we thought we had to do something with them – and we’re all obsessed with Peter Gabriel’s ‘Sledgehammer’. We eventually found an animator who could bring the photos to life.

YA: You’re about to play a date with London Grammar, Emeli Sande and Sam Smith on October 24th in London … that’s a pretty exciting line up.  Who are you most excited to share the stage with?

H: We’re huge London Grammar fans – great vibe and beautiful voice.

YA: Do you have any more tour dates coming up?

H: We have a headline show on 29th October and after that we’re going straight back into the studio with producer Leo Abrahams to record the rest of our album, which we’re pretty excited about.

YA: What’s your craziest live performance story?

H: We did a gig on a private jet which was pretty cool!

YA: We’re getting to the end of 2014.  What are your plans for next year?

H: We’re excited for our album to be coming out in 2015 and we really want to do some UK and US Tours as well as the summer festivals. We can’t wait to take these songs out on the road.

YA: If you could have dinner with one band past or present, who would it be and what would you talk to them about?

H: REM – given our recent video, it would be great to talk to Michael Stipe about where we can find good quality face paints!

YA: Which five songs are playing on your digital music player right now?

H: Yellow Flicker Beat – Lorde

Chosen – Blood Orange

No Rest For The Wicked – Lykke Li

Most of the Time – Bob Dylan

3005 – Childish Gambino
