Nicholas Duvernay, Rachel Marsh and Jaboukie Young-White Talk Adapting The Love Hypothesis and Working with Lili Reinhart

Another highly anticipated book to movie adaption is here, as The Love Hypothesis, based on the bestselling book with Ali Hazlewood, is available to stream on Prime Video now. We chatted exclusively with actors Nicholas Duvernay, Jaboukie Young-White, and Rachel Marsh to learn more.

The Love Hypothesis follows two scientists after an impulsive kiss who end up in a fake relationship, testing their theories about love and each other, starring Tom Bateman and Lili Reinhart.

“It’s wild how farcical it starts and how immediately it becomes real.”

Everyone has their own process for emotional scenes, which is the joy and mystery of acting. For example, Rachel said when she needs to cry in a scene, she likes to think about a positive memory in her life and that feeling. She also revealed Lili is exceptionally talented at crying on cue.

Rachel: “Lili was able to cry on camera so well.”

Turning an incredibly popular book into a movie can be a risk, as sometimes it is uncertain how fans of the book will like it, but Nicholas, Jaboukie, and Rachel said they put so much trust into their director Claire Scanlon, and it was such an amazing cast and crew.

Nicholas said he really cares about the fans of the book, and hopes they love the movie just as much as they loved making it.

Nicholas: “The book is informing the film.”
