Nicole Westbrook Sings Her Thanks

There’s a fair chance you’ve heard of 12-year-old singing sensation Nicole Westbrook, since 13 million people (yes, 13 million) have caught her on YouTube singing  “It’s Thanksgiving”, “Smile” or her other poppy-fun tunes. “It’s kinda crazy!” the seventh grader exclaims. “Walking down the street, people might come up to me, or look at me…it’s funny.”

For her “Thanksgiving” music video, Nicole kept it in the family. “It was a lot of fun…I had my real friends from school be in the video, in my real house – it made the environment really comfortable.” But make no mistake; this kid is a natural. “I’ve always wanted to act, but I kind of fell in love with singing as well,” Nicole says. And when faced with the question of picking her favorite between the two, she balks: “I can’t really answer that!”

In addition to trying her hand at music writing herself, the upcoming action thriller Ask Me No Questions features Nicole as the kidnapped kid. And what about the balancing act between work and school? “For the most part it’s been pretty easygoing, because my school…is really loose about missing class if it’s for performing arts.”

Nicole is so excited about next steps, and encourages others who have similar aspirations. “I know that it’s very competitive, especially at my age, with acting…It’s gonna be a rollercoaster, but you got to stick to it!”

A fan of Stephenie Meyer’s book The Host, she’s excited to see the film.
