Nolan River is an actor who can be seen in the film Old, as well as the film Adverse. Old will be released on July 23rd. Old is a thriller about a family on a tropical holiday who discover that the secluded beach where they are relaxing for a few hours is somehow causing them to age rapidly. Nolan will portray Trent at the age of 6. YEM was able to speak with Nolan about how his dad Thomas Nicholas influenced his career, his character in Old, in addition to his favorite scene to shoot.
Young Entertainment Mag: How has your dad Thomas Nicholas influenced you in your career?
Nolan River: I’ve seen a couple of the movies that my dad made when he was a kid. Rookie of the Year and A Kid in King Arthur’s Court are my favorite. My dad helped me get an acting coach and an agent. He also helps me prepare for auditions.
YEM: Your upcoming film “Old” which is a thriller, did you enjoy working on that particular genre?
Nolan: It’s only my third job as an actor, but I enjoyed being on set. The making of the movie wasn’t scary, but the trailer is really scary!
YEM: What was it about this film that made you want to audition for it?
Nolan: I thought that I was similar to the character, and it would be fun to play.
YEM: Can you tell us about your character in the movie?
Nolan: Trent is a curious and smart 6-year-old. He cares a lot about his sister Maddox.
YEM: “Old” was shot in Dominican Republic. What was the experience like for you to be able to be able to film the movie there?
Nolan: I was very excited to travel out of the country for the very first time. A lot of my scenes were filmed at the beach, so that was pretty cool.
YEM: What was the best thing about being able to film the movie in the Dominican?
Nolan: The tropical weather was warm, and I liked the lightening and all the rain. It was very different from the weather in Los Angeles.
YEM: Was there a particular scene in “Old” that was your favorite to shoot?
Nolan: There was a scene where we were eating a lot of food. I’m pretty sure I didn’t have any room for lunch that day after filming. I really liked the interior cave scene too. It looked so real that I almost forgot I was on a sound stage.
YEM: Did you learn anything from any of your co-stars that you can use in future projects?
Nolan: When you play a character, you need to think about what they would do in the situation. That’s one thing I learned working on this movie.
YEM: What advice can you give others who want to become actors as well?
Nolan: When you get an audition, take the time to practice and memorize all your dialogue.
YEM: You were able to work alongside your dad in “Adverse”, is working with your dad again something you are planning to do?
Nolan: I hope that I get to act in a film with my dad again. I’m also working on a music project for kids with my dad and my sister called The Robot Kid.
