Parenthood S05E16 “The Enchanting Mr. Knight”

We pick up where we left off last week with Sarah and Carl post amazing date. He’s pretty much ideal; attractive, kind, an independently wealthy philanthropist…what more could Sarah want? Carl has to go to Africa and since they’re in the honeymoon stage of their relationship, he invites her to go with him. At school, Julia’s volunteering when Ed shows up. He makes a move on her now that Joel’s moved out, but she rejects him.

Amber visits Drew at Berkeley to help him deal with his broken heart. They hit up a frat party and it’s predictably fun and awkward. Drew’s roommate has the hots for Amber, however we think she’s a bit out of his league. Back at the school, Julia and Ed are working together yet again on a project with Sydney’s class. Sydney takes the opportunity to ask Julia to get her PJs from Joel’s house for her, which is highly inappropriate. Sarah breaks the news to Ray that she’ll be going away for a personal matter

Back at the house, Jasmine’s having a tough time navigating her baby and her in-laws. Crosby is having a hard time wrapping his head around moving and complains to Camille who eventually can’t take it any longer. She chews him out. Kristina and Adam go to the school to have a chat with Max’s English teacher. They end up telling him their plans to open a charter school, which still seems a bit overly ambitious if you ask us.

Joel picks Sydney up from school and Julia tells him about the PJ debacle. Joel ends up taking control of the situation nicely. Back in the studio, Max reveals to Ray that Sarah’s personal matter is going to Africa with Carl. Ray runs to Dr. Pelikan for an emergency session and the doctor tells him to figure out his feelings and address them head on. Ed shows up at Julia’s in the middle of the night to apologize and to be there for her as a friend. She appropriately kicks him out and refuses to engage him.

At Berkeley, the Bravermans make a pact to each make out with someone by the end of the frat party. When Drew’s roommate goes for Amber, she backs out of her end of the deal and leaves the party. Drew strikes out with Natalie. Ray shows up to Sarah’s apartment while she’s packing for Africa. He convinces her to back out of the trip and Sarah goes to tell Carl the next day. We think she’s making a mistake on that front.

Adam and Kristina get a call from the doctor that her cancer is still in remission one year later. They go to Mr. Knight’s house, invigorated from the call. They try to get him to open the school with them. He’s impressed with their passion and they start to talk about the possibility further. Zeek and Camille have a fight because of the Crosby of it all. Crosby and Jasmine offer to move out but that quickly gets shot down. We end with Julia showing up on Ed’s doorstep to apologize for how she treated him earlier. She goes inside, presumably to keep their affair going. We think there’s something going on deeper beneath the surface with Joel and Julia, don’t you? Tweet us #ParenthoodPredictions for next week!
