If you were still somehow in denial that a major 90s renaissance is upon us, from design to fashion to music to pop culture, let it be known that The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, aka just the Power Rangers for short, are coming back in a big way (TMNT-style) in a major Hollywood release. Slated for summer 2016, the studio behind Power Rangers hopes to launch a hit franchise in the style of Hunger Games, Twilight and most recently Divergent.

Regarded as a comeback from the 90s here in the States, the story of a group of ethnically-diverse teenagers selected to defend the planet from evil alien overlords never really left the public eye, since the TV series has been going strong for over 20 years. It’s successful here and abroad as well. This makes the reboot a sensible next step for financial reasons, even if the source material is considered by many to be rather derivative and/or cheesy.

While casting and choice of director remain a mystery, fans are abuzz about potential story arcs and character changes. Whatever the case may be, we just hope they bring back the villain from the Turbo sequel, Divatox. She sounds like one of the losing drag queens on RuPaul’s Drag Race!
