Ravenswood, S01E10 – Finale “Haunted Heart”


In the season 1 finale of Ravenswood, Haleb shippers are catered to when Hanna visits town. Hanna comes into town to confront Caleb after his non-breakup breakup. Lots of lingering looks show there’s clearly feelings between the two but it seems as if for now, things are over. Hanna questions Caleb about Miranda and Caleb tells her the truth, that she’s dead. Hanna questions why Caleb never mentioned this when he was back in Rosewood, and Caleb explains that he’s still talking to her. Hanna’s clearly concerned about the fact that her ex or current or whatever may be losing grip on reality, and she decides to get some air. When Hanna’s out and about, she runs into Grunwald. Hanna tells her about Caleb and Miranda and Grunwald tries to explain to Hanna a little bit about how Ravenswood works. Hanna decides to stay around a little longer to see how things play out. Max approaches her, and it’s predictably creepy, but Caleb steps in and stops anything from getting out of hand. Hanna takes a bath in an homage to the pilot scene, and Caleb ends up saving her life. People in Ravenswood should only take showers, clearly. Caleb gets a text about Remy’s disappearance and heads off to help. When she’s alone, Hanna has a supernatural conversation with Miranda, and they bond in a way. Miranda encourages Hanna to leave town so Caleb will know she’s safe, and Miranda promises to watch out for their joint love. Back with Caleb, Remy tells everyone about the conversation she had with dream-Abaddon. Abaddon indicated that there was someone other than Miranda helping out the group and they decide to follow the trail and find this other person. It turns out to be Ryan, one of the Cursed Five of his generation. Olivia recognizes Ryan as someone she’s seen before and they track him down to Papa Matheson’s office to see if Ryan will appear and give them some insight into Papa’s murder. Signs at the scene include a bloody fingerprint and a book that Dillon knocked over. It’s presumable that Dillon is involved and as things unfold they become more harrowing. Dillon, in fact, kidnapped Remy as a way to lure the Five in. The group tracks Dillon down to the chapel in town and Dillon flees. As he flees he runs into Max who lures him onto the train-tracks and into certain death. Interesting turn of events, Max. When Remy disappears, Caleb goes to Collins for answers. Caleb realizes that Collins isn’t the bad guy they’ve made him out to be and in fact he has no idea about Dillon’s involvement with Papa Mathieson’s death. Collin’s opens up to Caleb and explains that his connection to the curse is because he comes from a long line of undertakers and they are inextricably bound to stay involved because anyone who tried to deflect ended up meeting an untimely death. Miranda’s present during this conversation and communicates to Caleb to let up on Collins, which he does. Collins has a realization during this communiqué, and heads toward the chapel as Abaddon is trying to resurrect Miranda. He stops the resurrection because it’s only an attempt to kill all Five at the same time. Collins breaks a jar, causing Abaddon to flee as he’s afraid of who Collins released. We find out that it’s Caleb Rivers…The original Caleb. Collins tells Miranda there’s another way to bring her back that doesn’t involve killing everyone else. Clearly this is going to be a big focus in season 2, if the show returns. Caleb and Hanna say goodbye when she returns to Rosewood. There’s still a lot of feeling there and we’re likely to see Hanna several times next season. We leave on a heartbroken Miranda, although there is the promise of her return. While the show hasn’t been confirmed to come back, it’s highly likely. The episode did provide a nice tie up to loose ends, however, although there’s a lot of emotional territory to still be mined.
