“This show really is a big community and a big family.” Lilian Rebelo Facetimes us to talk new role as Ana on season four of Only Murders in the Building.

Your favorite murder mystery comedy is back, as Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building returns Aug. 27! Last season ended with a bang, and season four will be no different. With an already star-studded cast, the show also introduced new characters and we Facetimed with a new addition, Lilian Rebelo, who plays Ana Olivera, to learn what it was like to join such a beloved show and her experience filming on set.

Only Murders in the Building premiered on Hulu in 2021 and has received high praise since then, also receiving both Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominations. The series follows a trio of strangers, Charles Haden-Savage, Oliver Putnam and Mabel Mora, played by Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez, all with a shared interest in true crime podcasts. They become friends while investigating suspicious murders in the Arconia while producing their own podcast about the cases, Season four follows the trio as they head to Los Angeles to discuss a movie adaptation of the podcast while also investigating the mystery of who killed Charles’ long-time stunt double Sazz Pataki, played by Jane Lynch.

The show has consistently had a star-studded cast, and season four is no different, bringing on Eugene Levy, Zach Galifinakis, Eva Longoria, and more. In addition to Lilian, Desmin Borges and Siena Weber are also new to the cast, and Meryl Streep returns.

“[My first day on set] was surreal, I still pinch myself to this day.”

Filming season four of Only Murders in the Building was a special project for Lilian, marking her first major television production. While she is most known for being in the hit theater production of “Our Dear Dead Drug Lord,” Lilian said it was a surreal experience to be on a big TV set surrounded by such talented people. She had to learn to find a balance between working, learning from the best of the best, and meeting as many new people as she could.

“That was the challenge for me to stay focused on the work but also be there and in the moment.”

Lilian revealed she had already been a fan of the first three seasons of the show, and did a live audition rather than just a self tape. She was even able to read some of the script when auditioning to get a sneak peek of what was to come in season four.

“An audition for Only Murders in the Building comes once in a blue moon.”

Lilian’s character Ana is integral to the twists and turns of the investigation into the murder of Sazz, and she said she had a lot of fun getting into the role, making both a playlist and Pinterest board for her character.

“I love creating playlists for my characters, and I love creating Pinterest boards.”

Even with an already established star-studded cast, Lilian said everyone she met on set, from the crew to the main actors were down to Earth. It felt like a big community and family of people, regardless of their experience, and Lilian said it was an incredible time for her first major show.

She even told us about some of her favorite behind-the-scenes moments, including getting to see Selena, Martin, and Steve improv some lines.

“Selena [Gomez], Steve [Martin] and Martin [Short] set this tone for everyone on set to be so welcoming.”

Given how popular the show is, we cannot wait to see where Lilian goes next!

Consider this:

  • When trying to find an agent, continue to submit yourself, use a good headshot, and meet as many new people as you can. It is important to find people that believe in you to keep in your circle.
  • Don’t forget to live in the moment while filming. It is easy to get caught up in the work and everything around you, but take some time to be proud of yourself for where you are and take it all in!
