Christmas is less than a week away! And the holiday season means holiday music. Singer Hannah Grace have released a collaborative Christmas EP called “December”. The four-track “December” EP features the brand new song and title-track, written and performed by Hannah and her co-collaborator on the EP, Gabrielle Aplin. And in January, Hannah will release a new single called ‘With You’. YEM spoke with Hannah about her new Christmas EP and her upcoming music.
Young Entertainment Mag: You just released a new Christmas EP. How did this new EP come to be?
Hannah Grace: I’ve been singing with Gabrielle for years now and we’ve always wanted to collaborate on an official release! Christmas is a time when our whole musical community tends to come together, we do a gig together at Union Chapel normally, so it seemed to make sense for Gabrielle and I to make this EP festive!
YEM: What’s your favorite Christmas song?
Hannah: I have so many! I’m definitely a Christmas person. I love River by Joni Mitchell which is one of the songs on th EP she manages to sum up the happy sad feeling over Christmas time with the hope of looking to the new year.
YEM: You collaborated with artist Gabrielle Aplin on “December.” What was it like to work with her?
Hannah: It was lush! Gabrielle and I have been friends for years. We’ve written a bunch of songs now that I love. We find it really natural to sing together and the producer of the EP is our good friend Luke Potashnick, someone who we have both worked with a lot so it was a very natural and fun process. We all just had a really fun week being creative!
YEM: The EP features 3 song covers and one original song (called December). How did you write December? Was it challenging to write your own Christmas song?
Hannah: It was weird writing a Christmas song in August…! But we were just chatting about how lucky we are to have so many wonderful people in our lives and where on Earth we would be without them. And then ‘December’ just kind of happened. It’s one of my favourite songs I’ve ever written with anyone and I’m so happy that people seem to be enjoying it.
YEM: You also have a single coming out in January called “With You.” Can you tell us about the song?
Hannah: Yes – I am so excited about this one! I really can’t wait for people to hear it. “With You” is a song about reminding someone that you’re there for them when they’re a bit lost. This year I’ve been reminded how amazing my friends and family are and how lucky I am to have them.
YEM: What’s ahead for you? Will you be touring or releasing a music video soon?
Hannah: Yes, I have so many creative things to share soon! I am shooting a video for With You which will come out in January and next year I will be releasing lots more music & doing some headline shows. I can’t wait!
